Powering Up! – The Oracle

Work on the Empowered Rulebook Primer is well underway and we’re making some great progress. Right now Ed’s completed about 3/4 of the writing! This game looks to be flying along and we hope to keep up the great momentum. It still needs some layout work and Keith is busy creating fresh images for it but overall we hope to have the rulebook primer available when we attend our Fall conventions.

Through the summer, we will certainly continue to run our introduction session at any and all opportunities. With all this playtesting I can assure you that the finished product will be a polished and professional game just like all our other Era RPGs. I hope to have more news for you next week.

Until then, keep those dice rolling!

Who Would Love a Sneak Peak? – The Oracle

The Deluxe edition is ready for proofreaders. Our team of dedicated professionals have looked it over and under and sideways until they’re seeing trolls in their breakfast cereal. It’s not quite shelf ready just yet but it is time to get a new pair of eyes for a fresh read.

We’re searching specifically for someone who has the time available to give it a really proper read through. We’d like you to point out what we might have missed, where we can tighten things up a bit and return your thoughts to us within a reasonable time. Easy!

If you think you’re up to the task then send an email to Ed and let him know you’re interested and he’ll send you the latest digital version if you’re fast enough! Some minor edits will still need to be sorted but you’ll be the first to see this game before anyone else and that’s got to count for some serious bragging rights… right?

Until next time!

Moving Ever Closer – The Oracle

Do you know the old saying, “A watched pot never boils”? Well right now I’m quite literally staring at the Marked for Death website and tapping my teeth in expectation. I can’t wait to announce the Kickstarter! But, we’ve got just a few more things to finish first.

We’re getting closer day by day. A new order was just placed for a few additional images to go in the rulebook. I know this will really boost the final product and make this book even better. Also, Ed has been working with the game creator to finalize the script they’ll be using for the video. I’m hoping to have some more good news for you next week.

There isn’t much more to say for our other games besides they are each making progress in their own way. Ed is up to his eyeballs getting Marked for Death ready to go so he hasn’t had much of a chance for anything else. I will keep you notified the minute anything changes!

See you next time!

The End is Near! – The Oracle

That’s it folks. Return your seats to their upright positions and stow your trays, our flight is about to land. The last shipment of Hardcover editions for the Consortium rulebook have arrived. We have  copies that will be sent out to a few more backers as well as a couple that we’ll keep on reserve for conventions.

This just about marks the end of our Kickstarter project which means that Era: The Consortium is right now “In Production”! With your help we have a full rulebook written, designed, produced and ready to play. Thank you again for believing in us and for believing in this game!

Before I leave you today I want you to imagine something. I want you to imagine that you’re the highest trained secret operative in the Consortium universe and that you’re wielding technology only a handful of beings know exist. With that much power, what would you do… how far would you go to get your job done?

Next week I’ll be giving you a snippet of our Secret War expansion with a little story about the Shades. If you’re going to keep secrets you better expect someone will try to take them.

Until next time!

Hardcovers!

Hi everyone!

Sorry I am a little late with this post. I just sent out all of the Consortium Hardbacks!

I’ve had a busy week this week:

– Era: Lyres is with the proofreaders, I’m expecting comments in about a week!

– Era: The Consortium Hardbacks have been sent out to all backers from the Kickstarter. I have a couple left, if you want one, contact me at ed.jowett@era-games.com and I’ll see what I can do about getting one to you!

– Era: The Consortium “The Secret War” Expansion is coming along nicely! We’re finishing off the last couple of stories and you can possibly hope to see this in October!

– The Era: The Empowered Primer is almost complete! Again, I’m hoping to have it ready for MCM in October for all those people who wanted to buy one on the spot in May. Loads more images coming in all the time, so keep an eye on Wednesday’s updates for more on Empowered!

– Getting Marked for Death finished off and the Kickstarter all ready to go is also taking a little time (to say the least!)

– I’ve been revamping the website! You can expect to see some more tweaks very soon on the Consortium subsite.

Is that enough? 🙂

– Ed

A new look for the Consortium Subsite! – The Oracle

Today, I want to direct your attention to our totally refurbished and ultimately fabulous web design. Ed has been working day and night (in between all those other things he does) to get our new style up and running. You have to check out Era: The Consortium and its latest changes!

With a sleek new look and left side menu bar I think this compliments the game incredibly well. It adds a bit of futuristic flare and emphasizes the rich artwork of the game. Have you tried the small arrow at the bottom of the menu?

Ed will be making a few final upgrades to the page before we can call it finished but it looks great already. Stop over and check out what I’m talking about. We’ve got plans to redesign each of our web pages as time goes on so keep checking around and you might just notice a few more changes.

See you next week!

Questions for Ed! – The Oracle

Occasionally we like to get inside our lead creator’s head and try to find out just what’s going on up there. With our latest Era game I thought this was the perfect chance to ask some of those burning questions that might be rattling around. If I missed your favorite question please feel free to shout it out in the comments or send us a message on Facebook.

See you next week!

-A

Does the game come with a list of powers or is that up to the player to create?
The primer (which won’t include character creation) will come with a campaign with preset powers and a number of characters to choose from. I have chosen chosen a reasonably wide range of powers which should satisfy most people! The full rulebook, on the other hand, will not only include a list of powers but also guidance on how to create your own powers within the rules without becoming unbalanced!

What stops a player from being overpowered?
Like Era: The Consortium, this game has been carefully balanced and uses a similar rule set. The various power trees are constructed in a very deliberate way. Not every superhero in popular culture can be described in a single power tree, meaning some would have to effectively have superpowers in order to exist. The Playtests thus far are very encouraging in terms of balance, but one of the reasons the rulebook is not quite ready yet is that I am not yet certain it is proof to those who look hard for a way to be overpowered!

How do rolls work with powers, is this a different system from other Era games?
Powers work in a very similar way to the other things in the Era d10 rule set. Each power roll is very mechanically similar to any other Skill check you would make during a game, and is therefore subject to the same risks, such as fumbles.

Is everyone in this universe Empowered?
No, not even all of the “Empowered” are, technically; we have tech powered individuals as well as those with “natural” abilities. Some are obviously Empowered, while others may not even realise they are! But don’t worry, there are plenty of “normal humans” out there to rescue!

Can one character have more than one power?
Yes. In fact, it is the intent to allow players to expand their power base as they continue playing! I can’t say too much more about that yet, but you can expect more news between now and when the rulebook comes out.

What time period is the game set in?
Modern day, give or take… but a little like Era: The Consortium, that isn’t an easy question to answer, because the scope of the game invalidates the question. This game, like Era: The Consortium, will cover a long period of time. Of course, that doesn’t include the “sideways” movement!

How did the characters get Empowered?
Much like superhumans in various series, it varies, depending on the individual. We are working hard to try to give each major character in the story a unique backstory and you will, of course, have the chance to create your own.

What gave you the inspiration to do this game?
I think I would have to say it was primarily Johnathan Lewis, one of the people who worked with me on the story arcs of Era: The Consortium and on our subsequent early marketing. He loves superheroes and has done a fair amount of professional writing for them. Combine that with all the Comicons I have been going to and a game about Empowered seems like something people would really enjoy playing. The story is something that has grown organically from ideas that I have had over the years… and should really be quite something!

How is this different from other ‘superhero’ style games?
Using this expansion on the Era d10 rule set, the game is incredibly easy to pick up and play for anyone from complete novice to veteran. There are enough rules to make it interesting and challenging but not so many that it becomes difficult to play. Also, this game allows the players to gain multiple powers! Add to that a story with scope beyond the basic environment with and multilayered story and a framework and I think we have something quite special and unique.

Will I have to choose an alignment; hero vs villain?
I don’t believe in classes or alignments, to be honest. You will have the chance, depending on the story your GM runs of course, to be both at any point. In the Era: The Empowered universe, all is not quite as it seems; being a hero or villain is perhaps not quite as straightforward as it seems on the surface.

What is your favorite superhero or villain?
I have always been very partial to two major Superheroes: Iron Man, who is only a superhero thanks to his brilliant mind, and the Martian Man hunter, whose wealth of powers and the way he tends to use them, combined with an attitude which often sees him trying to find a nonviolent solution, I find fascinating.

If you could be Empowered, what would your power be?
Telepathy. I had the opportunity to play Era: The Empowered as part of one of the playtests as a telepath – great fun!

Batman vs Superman. Who would win?
Batman would win. No explanation needed.

Now that you’ve worked on a Science Fiction game, a Fantasy game and a Superhero game…which do you enjoy the most?
Science Fiction will always be my favourite genre. I grew up on it, my default mode is to sit down and watch science fiction on TV… There has always been something about the extension of what can be that fascinated me. That doesn’t preclude superhero genres, though, because often there is a very sci-fi feel to them.

Will genre fans find things to like about this game even if they’re hard core Sci-fi and Fantasy gamers?
I think there’s an empowered in all of us… waiting to come out and play. I definitely think that Sci-Fi fans will enjoy this one… people who only like Fantasy – well, if they like gods and mortals interacting, I think they will too. Personally, I think this sort of genre bridges the gap between Sci-Fi and Fantasy!

Last Stop – The Oracle

The last story for the special Deluxe Edition Lyres rulebook has been written and approved! We’ll have a piece of art created soon to go with that story and Ed is busy tackling the first layout draft of the Deluxe book. It seems like only yesterday I was sending out a call for backers and folks were asking us “What exactly is a Lyre anyway?”. Today things are beginning to wind down and we are looking forward to getting this game out to players.

I’m thrilled to have been a part of making this game come to life. We’ve got some work yet to do but things are definitely running smoothly. I’ll keep you posted every step of the way during the finishing touches of production.

See you next week!

Things are getting close – The Oracle

I spoke with Ed just a few short days ago and he informed me that his work on the new character sheet in Marked for Death is complete. There are also more images on the way for this rulebook and I’m excited to see what our artists have come up with. We’re one big step closer to finishing this game!

If you’re wondering when you’ll get a chance to pick up a copy of Marked for Death I can tell you that right now we’re waiting on our game creator to finalize a few things before heading to Kickstarter. Part of what we do at Shades of Vengeance is make sure we let our independent creators work at their own pace and don’t push to see results like a traditional publisher might. We allow for extra time to help make their vision exactly how they imagined. Sometimes this means a bit longer wait for games but we believe that at the end of the day it’s going to be well worth it. I’m sure you’ll agree.

In other game news; Frontier is very close to completion of their first full draft of the rulebook. This game has some really interesting features and I’m already intrigued by the art. I hope to have some new details about this one for you real soon.

That’s it for today! See you next week.

Listen to the sounds of the Consortium! – The Oracle

There’s something about being totally immersed in a universe that’s absolutely amazing and hard to explain to anyone who doesn’t get it. When you’re inside the world of a great RPG it wraps you up and transports you completely. It’s more interactive than watching a movie and gives you infinitely more control than a video game.

At Shades of Vengeance we work hard to bring that kind of depth to our Era games. We’ve got comics, we’ve got stories, technical details and art. The Consortium is so full of great content it’s hard to imagine what more we could come up with. Problem solved.

LeoCVoices, an individual we met at MCM Comicon in May has developed a fan-made audio story about the Consortium! A little help from Ed has made it as near canon as something fan-made can be, so now you can sit back and listen to 14 minutes of pure awesome. Hardcastle’s Havoc gives us a vivid glimpse into the time shortly after Sean Hardcastle’s sentencing.

This is a creative retelling and does not follow exactly to the events in the rulebook. However, there is gun fighting, things are exploding and he sounds taller than I imagined. Do yourself a favor and check out this adaptation of one of the Consortium’s most notorious characters.

After having experienced this audio story, Ed and the team got to thinking. We liked it so much and there are so many possibilities to explore with this idea that we may just go out and do a few more. What do you think, would you like to hear “official” Consortium adventures on audio?

Before I leave you today I want to make sure everyone knows that the U.S. edition of the rulebook proof has been approved and it’s moving along to the final process. Also, our Secret War expansion is coming along fast and most of the stories are already done. Keep coming back to find out more details as I pick them up.

Until next time!

Lyres Deluxe, Hardbacks, Secret War, Website and so on

Hi everyone!

Just a short one today, I’m really busy right now!

I’m working on the Lyres Deluxe layout, just got the last story from Amy… it’s looking great, you guys will love it.

The Secret War is coming along very nicely. We’ve got all but one of the stories and all but 2 of the images completed! It should be with you relatively soon now! Again, this is looking really cool and I think you guys will love both the new story elements and the new equipment and implants available!

I’ve been working hard on the website – so far mostly the Era: The Consortium subsite – and it’s not entirely complete yet. If you find any errors, don’t panic! I’m going through the pages and working on it. Apart from the obvious visual changes, I’m trying to make it easier for you guys to all comment on the news posts… hopefully it’s working! I’m expecting to spread this across all the sites, particularly the main one, because I think it’ll come out really great!

Anyway, back to work!

– Ed

Have you seen our new look? – The Oracle

Ed has been busy over the last few weeks testing out the new design to our website. Right now we’ve got the Era: The Consortium page up and running so go check it out. I really love the sharp new look. What do you think?

It’s a totally different vision and we’re really excited about getting this around to all the other pages. You’ll notice as this rolls out some slight variances between each of the games but this overall style should be consistent throughout.

This is just like moving into a new apartment and trying to decide where to put all your stuff. Should the frosted lamp go next to the sofa or on top of the counter…and where on earth am I going to hide that knit cat sweater Granny made for me?

Web design is a whole lot like that. Which is why we’d love to know what you think. Did you find the podcasts? Do you know where to look for the Hall of Heroes? Take a browse around the site and let us know if you had an easy time moving around. Shoot us your feedback, we’d love to hear from you.

Besides our brand new look I’ve got another exciting announcement for you today. We’ve officially signed up to attend and sponsor two more conventions this year!

First up is DragonDaze in Wales; happening September 19th. This is a gaming convention and mini-comic con event that raises funds to help support a great charity. Later this year we will also be attending Dragonmeet in London; on December 5th. This table top gaming convention is one of the biggest in London and also considered one of the friendliest events in the UK. Right now they’re offering early bird ticket prices so go check it out!

We’re thrilled to be at these events so get your tickets and make plans to come see us. We’ll be running games, selling rulebooks and generally having a fabulous time. I’ll get you more details as we get closer to the date so keep watching these news posts.

Until next time!

Brace Yourself – The Oracle

So far, we’ve given you a nice little sampling of our Era: The Empowered universe. There’s been fantastic new art, an introductory session for those of you who’ve seen us at conventions and you’ve met one of our principal characters; Jim Upton. Well, today I get to give you a taste of the Backstory.

The game’s creator, Ed Jowett, has created a small piece to give you an idea of what went on before our characters became Empowered. Like all great histories, it begins with tragedy. Are you ready to run for cover?

Running Games – The Oracle

Did you get a chance to play one of our games with Ed yesterday? If you’re a new fan joining us today, welcome! Thanks for stopping by and why don’t you sit yourself down and relax. If you love RPG’s then you’re in the right place.

Yesterday, Ed was running games at JoyJam in Bethnal Green. There were sessions of Era: The Consortium and Era: The Empowered. Along with our flagship games, Ed also got a chance to run his first ever public session for Order of the Link. It went great and I know everyone who took the chance to play a game loved it.

Now that you’ve gotten an opportunity to play one of our games, remember that you can head over to the store to pick up your own copy. We carry Era games as well as Rulebook Primers for Order of the Link and Amazing Space Adventures.

In Marked for Death news I can tell you that the Kickstarter is getting very close to launch. We’re only a few weeks off. While things are getting polished and perfected, Ed is busy using all his expertise to design a unique character sheet for this game. It’s well on the way to being a great experience and I can’t wait for you all to get a look at it! So, that’s it for today.

See you next week!

Let Me Fix That For You! – The Oracle

I’m going to start right out this morning with some fun Consortium Expansion news. I know you’re eager to get details on what the future of the Consortium looks like and I’m eager to pass it on so here we go!

Ed has decided to give us all a sneak peak at some Expansion technology. This piece of art is brought to us by the ever fabulous Sofia Michailidou who worked with us extensively on the original Consortium rulebook. Take a look.

Shade-Repair-Nanite-Implant-3

This is a Repair Nanite Implant. They are a Shade device designed to assist operatives throughout the course of battle. They’re a huge advantage and I’ll give you an example of how they work. Imagine you’re out on a secret mission of the utmost stealth and one of your tech devices are damaged. All you have to do is deploy these little babies and Voila! Fixed.

It’s like having a mini-mechanic at your instant disposal. Repair Nanites can be used for anything from weapon jams to broken computer mainframes and everything in between. These small wonders can even put back together a gun that’s completely broken in half! They’re also a much better deal than most mechanics you’ll find because they don’t charge you added overtime fees and hardly ever spill coffee on your upholstery. Once the job is done these micro-mechanics simply return back to base to recharge.

Repair Nanites are just one of the many innovative things that are coming out with our new Consortium Expansion. We’re currently working on creating more content for you to enjoy and right now we’ve already got a few stories written to first draft. I’ll get you more details just as soon as they come to me.

One last thing for today. Ed just received a massive shipment of paperback editions of the rulebook which he’s going to bring along at every convention we’re attending so look for it when you come see us. Also, the hardcover copies will be arriving by the end of the month and I’ll let you know when those arrive. Keep those dice rolling!

Until next week!

JoyJam prep, Lyres Deluxe

Hi everyone!

I’m preparing for a brand new convention tomorrow, which is going to be great, I’ll be running at least one Order of the Link game (along with several of Era: The Consortium and Era: Lyres of course) at JoyJam in Bethnal Green!

I’ve also had the Lyres Deluxe version preliminary delivered to me, so I’m looking that over. A few modifications are needed, but it’s really looking good! Another great layout from Keith (or is that “more”, cos it’s an extension of the Lyres book?). I think that we should be able to get this out to you all soon now!

– Ed

Come Join Ed for a Game this weekend! – The Oracle

I said we’d be bringing our games to a neighborhood near you and I’m thrilled to tell you that we’ve already planned our next event! So, what are you doing this Saturday?

Ed is going to be at JoyJam, the totally and completely free Micro-Expo at Bethnal Green in East London at The Pickle Factory. Come join us for a game!

He’s going to be running game sessions from 2pm until 7pm so there’s lots of time to make it down. You can expect to play all our well-known Era sessions such as; Last Stand of Stiletto Unit and Counting Down From One.

But hold on to your hat, because Ed is also going to be running at least one session of Order of the Link. If you want to get your hands on some real-time game experience with this popular title you should definitely plan to stop by!

For those of you who already know you love the game but just want a rulebook we’ll also have some on hand. There will be print copies of Era: The Consortium, Era: Lyres and Order of the Link. However, we’re only bringing a limited number of rulebooks so get there early to claim yours!

Did I mention this event is only happening for one afternoon? Cancel whatever it is you were going to do and get yourself down to JoyJam. We’d love to see you there!

Until next time!

Did Someone say Primer? – The Oracle

When Ed ran the first campaign of Era: The Empowered at MCM Comicon it was a hit. Folks loved the game and wanted to know where they could buy a copy right there and then. It was tough to break the news that our latest game is just in the beginning of development and won’t be ready to play for some time yet.

Well, today I have great news! Ed has decided to create a Rulebook Primer in response to all the wonderful feedback and the many people who desperately wanted to play this game. Begging and pleading don’t always work but, hey, you never know unless you try, right? We want to help get everyone who’s excited for this game something to start enjoying as soon as possible. Ed is going to be working with Keith Draws, the layout artist behind so many of our favorite pieces, so you know it’s going to look fabulous.

This primer will come out alongside an ongoing campaign with a few pre-made characters. It will be much like our Era: The Consortium Patreon…but without the need to go through Patreon. Once the Primer is finished we’re going to make it available at the conventions we attend and at some point we’ll have it on our website as well. Can you tell that we’re really excited to bring these games to you?

Keep checking back for more details!

– A

Keeping on Track – The Oracle

Things are slowing down in the world of Era: Lyres. We’re approaching the end of our creation period and soon it will be time to finalize the deluxe rulebook! I know you’re excited; I am too. We’ve only got one more story to write and perhaps a smattering of art left. I don’t want to spill any beans but I’ll tell you that these last two stories will show you just how far you can succeed when you’re the best Lyres in Yarnolth.

See you next week!

A Quick Look Back – The Oracle

Marked for Death is heading down the tunnel, we’re only a couple of short weeks away from getting this game to Kickstarter! Right now we’re creating a few new GIF’s, recording an intro video and finalizing all the prep work. Are you ready for this?

As we enter the countdown for our next indie game Kickstarter I want to take a minute and look back at some of the other games we’ve finished. It seems like just yesterday we were going down this same path with our very first game!

Amazing Space Adventures was the first time we worked with a game creator to bring their vision to life. We learned quite a bit during the production of this game and realized that helping others is exactly what we want to be doing. It’s been inspiring to see all the effort that went into this game turn into its final product. We now take it with us to conventions and it’s available on our website.

ASA Front Small

Order of the Link was our second game developed with an independent creator and it was a roaring success. This highly refined RPG with over 30 years of fine tuning was a Kickstarter Staff Pick. Through this game we learned even more about working with creators and we’re currently in talks to create a full rulebook. Until then you can still find the primer available on our website.

4 - One Book Out

We’ve come a long way from when we first started and these games are just one example of why we do what we do. We’re proud to have helped them get from idea to printed book and with each game we design the process just gets better. We have a passion for RPG’s and truly believe that indie games created by folks who have a vision and a clear desire are much better than anything which can just be pumped out of a factory.

More news coming next week!

– A

Mobile App News! – The Oracle

It’s been some time since I was able to give you any details about our character creation app. Early on we went through some hoops to get a decent version started. Well, I’m happy to tell you that as of a few days ago Ed was delivered the very first promising prototype.

Whether it’s rulebooks, art, comics or even mobile apps, we want to deliver the absolute best product that we possibly can. We’re going to stand by each and every thing we develop which is why completion sometimes move slowly. We apologize for those delays but I know that in the end you’ll agree that it’s worth it.

I don’t have solid dates on the app completion yet but we’ve crossed the first major hurdle (getting a prototype which doesn’t make Ed cringe) so I’m crossing all fingers and toes that the project will pick up speed from here on out.

In rulebook news; our second run print copies should be arriving by the end of the month. We’ve got paperbacks, hardcovers and prints of Counting Down From One coming. I don’t have a clue where Ed is going to store them all! But here’s the catch, the only way you’re going to get your hands on one of these babies is if you come see us at a convention.

We’re planning to attend more events this summer and we’re trying to spread them out a bit so you folks who can’t get the time off to come to London will still get a chance to meet us. Who knows, we may just be coming to your hometown. So, keep watching here and I’ll let you know when and where we’re going to be so you can get your hands on some of this print copies. We’d love to see you!

That’s about it for me today. Work has begun on our first Era: The Consortium expansion set, The Secret War. Stories are being written and the initial pieces of artwork are being finalized. I’ve been given a little sneak peak at a few pieces and I can tell you that you’re going to love it. From what I’ve seen, things look dark and gritty. Just perfect for a Secret War.

Check out Thursday’s news post for an exhaustive discussion on the difference between our Secret War and Marvel’s Secret War. In short… they’re nothing alike except for that catchy title. I’ll be back next week with more details!

Until then!

Becoming Empowered and Marking for Death

Hi everyone!

I’m really busy right now, just for a change.

The primary things I’m working on are:

The Empowered Primer, which is going really well! We’ve got some new art happening and the majority is written. I’m really looking forward to giving you guys the chance to play this game – more a campaign than the taster session we did before. I’ve not decided yet whether I’m going to use the same cast of characters. Whether I do or not, I’ll be going back to before the session you might have played with us at MCM.

Marked For Death. I just finished a brand new design for this game’s character sheet. I’m hoping I can show you guys that soon! We’re just figuring out the last few bits and pieces.

Era: The Consortium – The Secret War; it’s coming along great, we already have a few pieces of artwork for it… but you’ll have to wait a short while to see them! They (and the expansion in general) are designed to fit in with the current Rulebook: the same colour coding, Parts and Sections according to those in the Rulebook… I hope it’ll feel like home!

Well, I have a million things to do, so I’d better get back to them!

– Ed

This is Rumour Control – The Oracle

Here are the facts.

Some of you… I hope most of you… know about our newest announcement for the Era: The Consortium universe. As of last week, Ed released the information that we are currently working on an expansion to the rulebook which we will be running under the name “The Secret War”. We started receiving concerned emails shortly after that post.

Most of you know that there is an event happening right now over at Marvel Universe which is coming out under an identical title. The folks at Marvel are doing a big and grandiose merging of universes and I’ve been told many things will be changing and their world will never be the same. Their editor in chief, Axel Alonso, has compared it to slapping together two pieces of pizza… “some toppings are going to drop off.” It’s true, check out this article if you don’t believe me.

I am here as an official representative for Era: The Consortium to tell you very clearly and with added punctuation: we will not be slapping this expansion together with our original rulebook like some cheese covered, meaty Italian delicacy!

Our “Secret War” has nothing at all to do with what’s happening over at Marvel. Both of us coming up with the same title is just a coincidence of awesome proportion. We considered changing it once we heard about the overlap but come on, “The Secret War”, it’s too fabulous a title not to use! This is going to be a straightforward expansion which will add to the continuation of the ongoing Consortium history. You can rest easy in the knowledge that everything which happens in the current rulebook will remain unchanged. I will keep you up to date with any and all news just as soon as I get it.

“One thing we must be certain of… this war must remain a Secret War” – Era: The Consortium – The Secret War

Until next time!

Empowered History: Jim Upton – The Oracle

On any given Saturday in most big box stores in the U.S.A., you’re likely to see a collection of security personnel. White shirt tucked inside black uniformed pants with a wide leather belt and shining silver badge made expressly to “seem” intimidating. These folks ride the fringes of authority every day to keep regular shopping citizens safe from the menace of pick pockets, vandals and the like. But, what do you really know about your mild mannered, comfort sole shoe wearing, uniformed rent-a-cop?

Take Jim, for instance. Jim Upton is a veteran of many armed military conflicts. You’d know by the way he carries himself that Jim can hold his own in a scuffle and that he’s seen plenty of action during his eight tours. What you can’t tell by looking at his face is that Jim is a survivor.

Eight tours in some of the meanest, toughest parts of the world and each time Jim Upton walked out with barely a scratch. But, that doesn’t mean he was pushing pencils! Every tour was a bare knuckle scrape through hell and back… and every time he was the only survivor from his unit.

Some folks called it luck, some called it a curse, and even Jim isn’t really sure. The only thing he does know for certain is that working as a loss prevention officer is a whole lot less dangerous. If things go right, no one at his new job will ever have to know about his past. He won’t have to bear the confused stares and the judgment ever again. Sure, it might be a bit dull… but that’s exactly what he’s looking for.

So, the next time you pass one of those bored looking security guards, just remember Jim Upton. And remember there may be more packed inside that rented uniform than just another Officer School drop out.

If Jim is lucky he’s going to live out the rest of his days never knowing why he survived while others died. He may never realize what bizarre twist of fate made him different than all the rest. Then again…perhaps he’s just about to find out!

Until next time!
