Full-Color Miniatures! – The Oracle

Our feature image today says it all. The Consortium miniatures project is getting some color! The extremely talented Simon Parr is taking the prototypes and turning them into works of art. The armor details and skin shading are impressive and I can’t wait to see how they all come together! Keep checking back here to see how these miniatures develop.

In game news; we still have one book left to complete from our latest Consortium Expansion series but we’ve got plenty of time to finish before the promised timescales and we’re confident that it can get done. Home Base is in its layout stage and we’ve had some issues getting it to look absolutely perfect. If you’ve gotten books from us before then you’ll know that we never release a product until we’re 100% satisfied that it represents our best work. So don’t worry, we’re on the case!

That’s all the news I have for you today. Come back next week for more updates!

See you then!

Era: The Chosen – Fighting the Anonassi in the First Era

Hi everyone!

In the First Era of the Anonassi War, the Humans were outmatched physically, so they had to rely on wits, brains and cunning!

This is the time in the game where you can have “swashbuckling” type adventures, as well as face an enemy which exceeds your abilities in every way!

– Ed

————————————————————————————————————————

Ira D’Aoust lived for the weight of a sword in each hand, for the feel of the blade meeting the resistance of flesh, for the sound of metal against the horns and claws and bones of the Anonassi. There was an element of artistry to sword combat. The timing had to be right, and movements couldn’t be stiff or practised but rather had to be created on the spot, inspired by a deeper understanding of battle. It was easy to fire a gun, he thought. Aim, pull the trigger, rely on physics to finish the job. Where was the intimacy in that? The artistry? No bullet killed more than once, but his swords had claimed dozens of Anonassi lives.

And now they were charged with helping to reclaim the Rostov maiden, Vladlena, who had been spirited away while tending horses at one of the family’s stables.

The lone witness was a stable boy who’d been watching her from afar, having found the task of peeping unnoticed to be a preferable challenge to shovelling manure.  After she was taken, it took him several hours to find the courage to move from his hiding spot and then a further several days to report what he had seen for fear of having to confess to how he spent his working hours.

As such, finding where Vladlena had been taken was an arduous task involving many scouts, and many close calls with Anonassi, all of which were progressively overlaid with a sheen of futility. The Anonassi had no aesthetic taste for pretty human maidens and favoured brutish tactics like murder over ones with a more strategic element, like demanding ransom. More and more, the popular belief became that she was almost assuredly dead.

Until she wasn’t.

The stronghold where she was being kept had been a particularly long and jagged thorn in humanity’s side since its discovery. Small and remote, it should have been easy to capture but the Anonassi stationed there protected it like it was the last bastion of their people. But this time, there was something for the D’Aousts and the Garcias to fight for.

Spinning on his heels, Ira caught one Anonassi Udzeni in the abdomen with his left blade; with his right blade, he parried off the attacks of a Fallen wielding a Kapavuk leg as a weapon, its snakelike fingers wrapped tight around its thickest point. His ears were ringing and he was bleeding from his arm, his face, his collarbone. There was a constant feeling of strain in his legs from trying to hold his position on blood-slicked stone.

The Fallen was laughing, and a malignant glow shimmered in each of its four eyes. It made swiping, taunting advances towards Ira that never made contact with more than his swords, and it moved ever backwards to lure him forwards. But Ira was laughing, too.

“You naughty, naughty thing,” he said, using the voice he reserved for tiny, underfoot children. “What I want isn’t back there – ” He took a leap backwards, narrowly avoiding landing on the Udezni’s still-writhing corpse. ” – why it’s right behind me! So you see, you simply can’t trick me into going in any other direction but this.” Giving his left sword a quick kiss on the pommel, he whispered to it, “I’ll come back for you, girl,” and tossed it at the Fallen, lodging it in its skull, and ran towards the tower from within which poured Vladlena’s indignant screams.

He dodged bullets and globs of acidic phlegm; he barked back at the Hellhounds trying to scale the wall towards him, and he ducked on command whenever one of his allies fired at an enemy that was about to flank him. He regretted not being closer to the action, regretted not being able to put on a full display of his swordsmanship for his predominantly gun-wielding brethren, but the sounds of their gunfire and of the Anonassi wailing in defeat were like music to him, and as he ran he moved almost like he was dancing in tune to it, the kind of marching, lurching dance of the intoxicated.

It came at great disappointment but at no surprise to discover that Vladlena was under heavy guard. Two Hellhounds prowled the room, and a group of Fallen had encircled her so completely that he could only catch a glimpse, here and there, of the pink fabric of her dress. Looking around the room, he soon realised that there was little he could use to his advantage. No torches to knock over, no rafters to swing from, no sharp and pointy objects he could repurpose into weapons.

“I always hate having to break a Molotov for you guys but, well, look how few choices you’ve left me with.”

Vladlena made a vaguely meeping sound and said something Ira couldn’t completely hear about what he was thinking, which was a fair enough question under the circumstances, but which was also a pointless one. He had made his decision, and so he threw the cocktail as far away from her as possible while still hitting the brunt of the Anonassi forces.

This was not enough to fell them, or even to stay their hands, but it did have the effect of scattering the Fallen away from Vladlena. Sensing an opportunity, he rushed into the room, grabbed Vladlena by the waist, and jumped from the nearest guard window, hoping rather blindly that he had correctly determined which one faced north.

They landed together on top of a pile of Anonassi corpses. Several fighters rushed to their side but Ira shooed them away. “Upstairs!” he said, “There’s some stragglers up there.”

When Vladlena caught her breath, she turned to him and said, “I supposed I should thank you but you nearly got me killed in two different ways so would you just take me home already?”

“Home?” Ira gave her a cheeky grin and a slightly suspect wink. “I’m about to claim this stronghold in the name of Ira D’Aoust,” he said. “I was thinking about making you my queen.”

Vladlena rose to her feet so fast that Ira jumped up with her, worried that one of the Anonassi beneath them was still alive. “If you don’t get me out of here right now,” she said, “I’ll shove this entire stronghold right up your arse.”

“Fine, fine,” Ira tried dusted himself off but he was covered in so much Anonassi blood that it just made him feel messier. “I have to fetch my sword first – at least she values my company – but once she has been returned to me, I’ll take you back to your home, fair maiden, you have my word.”

Era: The Empowered is being finished off as we speak by Ed who is finalizing the last pieces of editing for the full version. The next step for this game will be on to the proofreaders and then we’ll be letting some beta readers have a chance to read through the book. Does that sound like just the kind of thing you’d be perfect for? We’re looking to find a few extra beta readers and if you’re interested we’d love to hear from you! Message Ed through our website or Facebook page and let us know.

Era: The Chosen is our next release and our first foray into the darkest parts of horror RPGs. If you’d like to get some sneak peaks and see what this game is all about I suggest you hop over to the game’s facebook page. Ed is sharing some fabulous artwork, stories, and information about the different clans. This is your chance to learn everything you can about the Anonassi before the game’s official release! https://www.facebook.com/groups/erathechosen

The last game I have for you today is called Era: Lost Legend. This is a brand new game that the team is developing and the first playtests are about to begin. I’ve been sworn to secrecy so I can’t say anything more than that but be on the lookout for more details coming at you soon!

That wraps it up for me. I’ll be back on Saturday with some exciting developments on our Consortium miniatures project.

See you then!

Another Stiletto Unit Miniature – The Oracle

Today’s featured miniature is the Stiletto Unit medic, Dr. Curay. As a medical professional you might expect her to be a total non-combatant. However, the good doctor is a fierce fighter when push comes to shove and she’s required to help protect her team. She even put herself front and center during the unit’s mission to protect Gueya from an attempted assassination.

So, while she certainly doesn’t resort to violence as a first measure you can be sure that she’ll put her expert skills with thrown weapons like knives and grenades to good use in defense of the team! You can read more about Dr. Curay and all the other members of Stiletto unit in our Consortium rulebook as well as the comic The Last Stand of Stilleto Unit. Check them out here:
https://www.era-games.com/store/

That wraps it up for me today. I’ll catch you back here next week for more updates on all our games and comics.

See you then!

Era: The Chosen – The Formation of the Chosen

Hi everyone!

In what’s now referred to as the sixth year of the Anonassi War (AW6), the Rostov Clan suggested that the group pool their resources to fight the Anonassi.

Here’s a free horror short story set in the world of Era: The Chosen about the three Clans…

– Ed

———————————————————————————————————————–

They entered the Lost Lands as soon as they could. Because of the vagaries of timing, and because no human really had control over any of the portals, this meant that the team all entered at different places up and down the course of the River of Souls. The runners from the Falling Rock tribe collected them, bringing them to the tribe’s camp where they could rendezvous.

Sandra ran her hand along the barrel of her gun, rubbing the bronze fittings. It was her pre-raid ritual, the thing that made her feel safest and most in control. They all had something similar that they did for luck, whether it was as simple as stroking a weapon or as complex as Carmine’s series of prayers and hand gestures.  She had learned a long time ago not to interrupt his little religious observances before the raid.

Koura, one of the youngest Falling Rock runners, came into the reptile-hide tent where the three assembled members of the team were resting. Sandra, Carmine and Luis all looked up expectantly when she pushed the flap aside and joined them.

“Another comes,” she said. “A woman.”

“Ah!” Luis said. “Teresa.”

Carmine nodded, pleased. “Good. We are gathering quickly. God is smiling on us.”

Koura looked at him strangely but said nothing. The Falling Rock people were distrustful of gods from outside their realm. “Keep the God talk quiet,” Sandra advised Carmine. “You’re making people nervous.”

She expected him to argue, but instead he fell silent. She nodded, satisfied.

A few minutes later, Teresa joined them, her black hair braided into a long plait down her back. She had a crossbow, and a quiver of incendiary arrows was strapped to her thigh. She knelt beside Sandra with a smile.

“Good to see you,” she said as they shook hands.

“Likewise. Did you see Blake?”

“He’s coming,” she nodded. “I saw him on the other side of the camp.”

“Excellent.”

She waited until their last team mate arrived, and then she drew a squiggling line in the sand. “This is the River of Souls.” She punched her finger into the sand, making a dot. “This is the camp where we are now.” She scribbled her finger through the sand on the far side of the line representing the river. “This is the mountain ridge, and here’s the pass. We’re going to go through that pass and link up with Andre Rostov, who’s been here for a few days with the Shadow Runners. Once we meet him, we’ll continue on to this point.” She jabbed another divot into the ground. “That’s the slave pit where they have them splitting stones, useless as that is.”

“Yeah,” Luis said. “Why do they make them cut docks, anyway?”

Koura answered. “It builds their muscle and keeps them busy during the day.”

“Why do they want them to build muscle?” Luis asked, obtusely.

Koura looked at him with something like pity on her face. “Muscle is meat.”

They were quiet for a moment, then Teresa said, “Okay, that’s disgusting.”

Sandra smiled wryly and sat back. “Andre and his scouts will have intel about the guards and the number of slaves there. We can only hit one pit at a time. I figure we can get the humans there out of danger, but once the Anonassi know we’re raiding, they’ll close ranks, and the others will be out of reach. We’ll have to come back for them later.”

Carmine mused, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could bring a whole army here? Maybe then we could rescue everybody at once and kill these bastards once and for all.”

Teresa nodded. “Until we can control the portals, that’s not going to happen… unless we can train up the tribes.”

Once again, Koura spoke. “We are ready to fight. At the next Rivermeet, we will talk among ourselves about arming against the enemy.” She looked at Teresa. “My father and your father will meet.”

Carmine shook his head. “No offense, but if the tribes here were going to be any good at fighting, they’d already be doing it.”

“Falling Rock are fighting,” Koura said, aggrieved. “Am I not here? Am I not leading you through the mountains?”

Sandra put up a hand, and Carmine bit back on what he’d been preparing to say. “We know that the Falling Rock and the Shadow Runners are our allies, and that you fight the best we can.  We will be attending the next Rivermeet, and we’ll talk then. There is much more that we all can do. All of us, Carmine.”

He looked away. “If you say so.”

Blake finally spoke up, the first thing he’d said since he’d joined them. “So…when do we leave?”

She looked over her team. They were all armed, all rested, all ready. She nodded. “We leave now.” She rose and looked at Koura. “Lead the way…”

More Comics Are On The Way – The Oracle

Now that our back-to-back run of convention appearances is over we’re full speed ahead on the creation of our two favorite things, games and comics. Those of you who stopped by at either MCM or UKGE these past two weeks will certainly have noticed that the amount of comics we have on offer is getting substantial. Still, Ed and the Comics Team have plans to ramp up production even more!

We’re developing a large and interconnected sequence of comic story-lines which will allow each character their own feature comics as well as a chance to appear in combined stories. Some of these characters you’ve already met and others will be brand-new to you. We’ll be creating some new adventures for a couple of our fan favorites; Blue-Shift, Violete, Lacuna, and Penumbra as well as giving you a chance to meet new characters such as Shifter, Tornado, and K’Jarr.

It’s not just the world of the Empowered that is going to get a boost in comics. We’ll also be bringing you a whole new science fiction series based out of the Consortium! This series of stories will sit alongside the Bug War Anthology and has the working title DISARMed. Fans of the Consortium should know exactly what this title is hinting at… Giant Mechs! There are few things more fun in the science fiction universe than getting to operate a massive mechanical beast like the DISARM and I have a feeling this new comic series will showcase just how impressive that can be.

That’s all I have for you today in the field of breaking news. If you haven’t already checked it out, stop by our Evil Overlord Kickstarter and join the over 160 people who are giving that game a try. All the feedback we’ve received from folks who’ve played is that it’s a fun, fast-paced and addictive game. We’ve already passed our funding goal and marched through several Stretch goals so all you need to do is stop in and pick out your reward level!

I’m out of here for today, but be sure to come back on Saturday for another look at one of our upcoming Consortium miniatures. See you then!

Another Stiletto Unit Miniature – The Oracle

We’re working our way through the Stiletto Unit Miniature collection! Next up is the athletic Kutsutas. This energetic Stiletto teammate started out as an extreme sports athlete in her youth, garnering fame and recognition with her impressive physical skills. However, once she learned that Smertios Security was responsible for the death of her parents she made the decision, dragging her brother Zeelay with her, to join the Resistance and seek out some much needed revenge. She’s an expressive and outgoing member of the team who brings a great deal of emotion to their dynamic.

You can check out Kutsutas and all the rest of the Stiletto Unit Miniatures this weekend at the UK Games Expo! Come to our booth at stand 1-B10 near the entrance to Hall 1 to play a game with us and see what we have to offer.

I’ll be back next week to talk a bit about some of our upcoming projects so stop in soon and I’ll see you then!

Era: The Chosen – Hellhounds

Hi everyone!

Another type of Anonassi frequently encountered in the early years of the Anonassi War is the Hellhound.

Fast, stealthy and brutal, these creatures bear a passing resemblance to the hounds of mythology and, once again, the early name seemed descriptive enough to stick.

Imagine running into one of these in the dark lands between dimensions as you explore them.

One Convention Down, One To Go! – The Oracle

We had an amazing time at MCM Comicon over the weekend. It was great to see so many new fans as well as those who are already familiar with what we do. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and played a session with us, picked up a game, or just came over to chat. We love getting to share the worlds we’ve created with you!

As much as we’d like to kick back and spend our time reminiscing about all the fabulous moment of MCM there’s no time to rest because this coming weekend we’ll be attending yet another convention!

UKGE is a massive event held just in honor of gaming and we’re pleased to be participating for another year. Ed and the team will be setting up a booth at stand 1-B10 near the entrance to Hall 1 where we will be running demo games throughout the weekend, both at our stand and in assigned slots!

You can find us there with all our available Era games and gear. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who may have missed MCM Comicon or perhaps just wants to attend an event focused more on games. We’d love to see you so please make time to stop in!

Also, be sure to check our Facebook page for pictures and videos from MCM and definitely tag us if you’ve taken some photos of our team in the wild!

See you on Saturday!

Another Figure In The Consortium Miniatures – The Oracle

Today’s featured image showcases Zeelaay, the Stiletto unit pilot and heavy weapons expert. This grim-faced warrior was the first to garner Steve Adam’s respect for his discipline and skill. What Zeelaay lacks in small talk, he more than makes up for in combat knowledge and sheer determination. He prefers to let his rocket launcher do the talking.

You can find Zeelaay’s miniature along with all the rest of Stiletto unit at our booth in MCM! We’re inside N4 and we’re stand 930 for games. You can also check out our new booth at the Comics Village where we’re at stand Q9. If you go straight in from N2, we’ll be right in front of you! We’ll have all our Empowered and Consortium comics available as well as our newly-released Violete comic. We have so much to check out so definitely stop by and see us!

That’s all I have for today. I’ll see you again next week where we’ll be gearing up for the UKGE event!

Era: The Chosen – the Rostov Clan

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m talking about the Rostov Clan.

The third clan to join the group, the Rostovs are devoted to controlling information. They ensure that no-one finds out about the Chosen or the Anonassi War that is happening.

For generations, they have dominated Harbour City and the battlefield within the Lost Lands with their tactical planning, cold logic and detailed information…

New Patreon Content Available – The Oracle

Each month our Patreon supporters get unique content and special offers that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. It’s a fantastic program and allows us to routinely send our backers new sessions, sneak peeks, and other member benefits. This month we have a little something extra planned for our Patreon folks.

Regular supporters and even those who join in now will get the latest Era: The Consortium Time Travel session and an additional campaign. This month we’ll be sending out another Era: Survival- Foundation Campaign Session! For those who are unfamiliar with this campaign; the Foundation Campaign follows a small group who are attempting to make a new settlement on Gaia. As with everything in the Survival universe there’s bound to be plenty of difficulties and this campaign will give you challenges to overcome as the group faces some deadly trouble in their efforts to create a new home for themselves.

Have you had a chance to check out our latest card game? Evil Overlord launched its Kickstarter this week and we’re excited to show off this fun game. See you on Saturday!

Era: The Empowered Update 7

Hi everyone!

An update today on the progress we’re making!

As you know, the Era: The Empowered Player’s Guide is now complete. Proofreading of the entire story section (almost 200 pages of the Core Rulebook) is also complete, and the changes have been implemented in the files.

I’m about to embark on two weeks of conventions, so I’m not going to have much time to work on the book personally for a couple of weeks. However, artwork is continuing in the meantime, as Keith works through the remaining images (the Featured image is the latest sketch he sent me, for the Part 5 Title Page)!

We’re enjoying making this game, and we very much appreciate your patience, as we work towards completing something that we can be proud of and you will enjoy!

Consortium Miniatures Collection Is Growing – The Oracle

Today’s featured miniature is Stiletto Unit sniper, Alex Gyter. This hot-headed member of the team is pictured with his two favorite pastimes; a deadly long-range rifle and a bottle of liquor. Gyter may enjoy a few too many drinks now and again but when it comes to defending Stiletto Unit he always comes through.

Gyter is joining our growing number of figures from the Stiletto Unit team and from the art we’ve been given so far I think he looks just about perfect. He’s going to make a great addition to the entire collection!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be featuring each of the Stiletto Unit miniatures as their prototype’s artwork is available. In case you’ve forgotten, you can check out exactly who is a part of Stiletto and what they’ve done to make themselves infamous in their Consortium comic…

https://www.era-games.com/product/era-the-consortium-comic-last-stand-of-stiletto-unit-digital-version/

That’s all I have for today. Remember that you can come see us next weekend at MCM Comicon in London. We’ll be ready to answer questions, play games, and generally have a great time. We’d love to see you!

Era: The Chosen – The Story of Sheila Park

Hi everyone!

I have a brand new free short story from the world of our horror game Era: The Chosen today.  We’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing writers on this project, such as Jennifer Martin and Darren Pearce!

This story is set in the first Era of the Chosen, when the Anonassi rule over the Lost Lands and Humanity was barely aware of their existence!

———————————————————————————————————————–

Sheila Park sat at her desk, paperwork spread out all around her. Her fingers were stained with ink and her blotter was nearly used up. She had been working late, wrestling with the books for her boss. Accounting was dreary business at two in the morning.

She sat back and rubbed her eyes, leaving ink streaks on her skin. She was too tired to care. The oil lamp was guttering, and she supposed that the reservoir was almost dry. She would need to buy more oil in the morning.

She lived alone in the Outer Circle, a short walk away from the office where she worked for import merchant Christophe Guillen. The garret flat was small, but it was all she needed. She had her desk, a bed, and a chair by the fire for when she had the chance to sit and relax. She had not had that opportunity for a very long time.

A chill passed over her, and she shivered. The window was closed, and there was no wind tonight. There should not have been a draft. She looked around the garret, wondering what had caused the little gust of air, but she could see nothing. There was something, though… a feeling of being watched, a pressure from the weight of eyes staring at her.

She closed her book and rose, facing the rest of the flat, her back toward the desk and therefore the wall. The presence, or whatever it was, seemed to be in front of her, but she could see nothing. There was a sense of movement, and she was convinced that whatever it was, it was coming closer.

The corner of her rug lifted, as if something had kicked it. The hairs on the back of her neck stood, and she retreated, her heart pounding in fear. The feeling came closer, and she retreated again, realizing that whatever invisible creature had come into her room, it was backing her into a corner.

Something brushed her face, cold and rough, and she screamed. She tried to make herself small, crumpling into a ball on the floor, but the presence loomed over her. There was another touch, and this time it felt like claws, leaving a vivid scratch across her cheek.

Sheila screamed again, too terrified to move. The presence came closer still, and she could feel air stirring against her face. It was close now, so close, and she was sure it was going to kill her. She began to weep.

There was a sound, then, like a cross between a growl and a laugh. It was the most demonic thing she had ever heard. The claw returned, and as she tried to recoil unsuccessfully into the floor, it was joined by the unmistakable feeling of teeth.

She howled in pain and horror, and the door to her flat burst open. Her neighbor, Oscar Gwent, came into the room, a dagger in his hand. He raced toward her but stopped halfway across the room. The hand holding the blade suddenly jerked upward, and then he and the presence were gone.

Sheila wrapped her arms around herself and screamed until the constable came. She didn’t stop screaming for a very long time.

***

They found her like that, arms wrapped around her legs, no voice left from the screaming she’d been doing. The constables who responded to her neighbours’ noise complaints packaged her up in a strait jacket and took her way to St. Telus Hospital, where she was deposited in a locked room in the women’s mental ward.

She finally slept when they forced sedatives down her throat, but when she woke, she would resume her mindless screaming, so they sedated her again. It took them days to even learn her name, and then that was only because her employer came to her apartment to check on her when her uncharacteristic absence from her desk attracted attention. Christopher Guillen, her employer, came to the hospital and provided her name and next of kin, and he kindly paid the expenses for her treatment before he left her to their mercies.

On the fifth day that they allowed her to regain consciousness, she no longer screamed. She talked. She told the nurse who bathed her about the presence in her flat, and the neighbour who had come to her rescue but had vanished. The nurse made a note of the name, Oscar Gwent, and sent word to the constable, asking him to get a statement from the man.

Gwent was never found again, and in time, his flat and Sheila’s were given up to new renters. The march of progress and real estate income needed to go on, after all.

She never screamed again, but on dark nights, she would sit in the corner of her room and shiver, babbling about invisible creatures with claws that grabbed and gusts of chilly air. Nobody much believed her.

Nobody but Charlie, that is.

Charlie was another patient, one who had been locked up by her husband for claiming to see a monster stepping out of her bedroom wall. She knew that what Sheila had seen was real. She just didn’t know who to tell. Her husband had quietly dissolved their marriage after her third year on incarceration, and she wouldn’t have turned to him, anyway. She had only distant family in Harbour City, and none that she was certain she could ask for help. Something drove her to ask, anyway. She sent a letter to her third cousin Rosalinda Garcia-D’Aoust, telling her about what she had seen and about the ravings of Sheila Park.

She hadn’t expected anything to come of it. Then, one gloriously sunny day, Rosalinda and her husband Nicholas came and took Charlie away, taking her back to their home in the Inner Circle. They were kind to her, taking away the shackles and letting her bathe and trim her tangled hair. They called her Chosen.

When she learned what she’d been Chosen for, she wished she’d stayed in the hospital. Fighting monsters is not for everyone.

Upcoming Miniatures – The Oracle

As I’m sure you can tell by today’s feature image, I’m going to talk with you a little about our Consortium Miniatures project! Ed has loads of wonderful things planned for what’s coming next in the Consortium universe and one of the things we’re most excited to show you are these figures.

So far, I’ve shown you images of two Stiletto Unit operatives in their miniature forms and today I get to reveal the third. Steve Adams. This heroic leader started out in Hayden Bank working as a mid-level manager. Once his life was threatened, Steve was recruited into the Resistance and became the infamous captain of Stiletto Unit; going on to save countless lives. He and the rest of the unit are featured in many stories inside the Core Rulebook as well as a comic book and even a playable scenario that some of you may have gotten the chance to enjoy.

We’re going to be working through all of Stiletto Unit as our miniature collection grows so come back here often to see who will be next in line to become immortalized as a figurine. These miniatures will be made available at some point during the next year through Kickstarter so you’ll have a chance to get your own set just as soon as we can have them finished. We don’t have a strict timeline at the moment as we’re busy with loads of other projects, including the Home Base stories which are coming along. However, I will keep you updated just as soon as we know more!

So, this is where I leave you. Meet me back here next week for more news and updates!

Era: The Chosen – The Fallen

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m talking about one of the kinds of Anonassi.

The humanoid “Fallen” had the appearance of fallen angels in the opinion of the first Chosen, and the name stuck.

The Fallen are remarkable for their telepathic powers, which make them the only Anonassi who have communicated with Humans.

Alongside their terrifying appearance, they also possess sharp claws and thicker skin than you might expect, making them power adversaries!

Empowered Update 7 – Tales of the Empowered, Player’s Guide and more!

Hi everyone!

Progress is continuing nicely on Era: The Empowered.

Tales of the Empowered physical books have now been sent out to all backers of the Tales of the Empowered Kickstarter, and are ready for the backers who requested it from the Era: The Empowered Core Rulebook Kickstarter!

The Player’s Guide has now gone out to all backers who requested it and I’ve had quite a few additional requests! It’s still available for Kickstarter backers who missed the Add-On during the campaign, so please contact us if you would like it, and we’ll find a way to get it to you.

The artwork for the Rulebook is being held up just at the moment, to finish the rewards from the Tales of the Empowered Kickstarter! The featured image of this post is Magnetara, one of the Empowered added by the backers of that Kickstarter!

However, we expect to be back on that very soon now, as Keith is finishing off the last of them.

Proofreading is still ongoing and has now almost finished Part 1. As Parts 2, 3 and 4 appear in the Player’s Guide in an almost identical format, the proofreading only really has to deal with the adventures and the appendices now.

We’re getting very close now, and the book is looking fantastic!

Home Base Is Finished! – The Oracle

The Home Base Expansion book has been one of our more ambitious books in this latest series and I’m pleased to announce that it has officially been declared finished! The Home Base book is filled with numerous pieces of artwork and playable details that you’re going to enjoy. Ed and the team have worked hard to bring you everything you could possible need in order to create your own livable home base and we think this book has turned out fantastic!

https://www.era-games.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Daoust.jpg

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m talking about the D’Aoust Clan who, I think it’s fair to say, are not generally viewed in a positive light by the other Clans…

“They are dwarfed by what they have found, small men made big by picking the bones of what came before.”

The D’aousts are primarily dedicated to the appropriation of objects of power from the Lost Lands – they see the neighbouring dimension as their personal gold mine and are loath to share any of the profits of power that they may receive. They accept that the Anonassi are a threat to their claim and therefore fight them when necessary. However, they concern themselves little (if at all) with the welfare of the people who live in the Lost Lands, except where they can provide access to new technologies to salvage.

To the D’aoust family, friends are only as good as the benefits they bring to you, and loyalty is always for sale (albeit at a very high premium). They intend to be at the forefront of Humanity, reaping the glory, no matter what the future brings.

Where The Consortium’s Heading Next – The Oracle

As I promised you on Thursday, today I’m going to go over some of the ideas that Ed has for the Consortium’s next few books. We’d like your input into where we should head next so take down notes and feel free to give us a shout with your favorites!

First up is the Company Handbook. The Consortium is filled with companies from the largest of the Big Eight to the smallest family-run businesses that work their way up in hopes of becoming a powerful force. This book will give you everything you need to create and run your own company within the Consortium.

We are also considering a Resistance specific book. Era: The Resistance will be a complete guide to the Resistance’s operations. These rebellious citizens will be brought to life with insights into how they live as well as their various personnel. We’ve never gone into so much depth about the Resistance and you’ll get a chance to collect information that will be unlike anything we’ve shown you before.

The Consortium is home to many different races and these multifaceted beings are one of the features that make the universe of the Consortium so interesting. With that in mind, one of the things we’re considering making available to you is a set of Race Source Books. Have you ever wondered how the Eulutians, Ximians, Vilithii or Humans made it to Consortium space? We have hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of years mapped out to tell the stories you never knew.

One area of Consortium history that has up to now been left mostly a mystery is the Orion’s first mission; to travel to a nearby solar system. With the Journey to Albiorix book we get a chance to explore more of what happened during that momentous period of time. All we really know about their adventures is that they found the Vilithii. What else happened while they were exploring? This book will include many new details that cover this missing time in history.

Finally, Ed has plans to create a book which will detail the next 500 years of Consortium history! This is a huge endeavor but it was always something Ed had been envisioning since the very start. The story that we’ve told in Era: The Consortium is not the end, it is just the beginning!

There are many more secrets yet to be revealed in the Consortium’s future. What are these “Titans”, and how can they be defeated? What is the nature of the other two Chosen Races the Pliangrathilon claim to bring news of? What truths lie beyond the veil of the future? These are just some of the unanswered questions that we will be working to develop with the next portion of the Consortium’s history.

So, I’ve talked about several big directions where we might take the next few books for the Consortium. What’s your favorite? Do you fancy making yourself the CEO of a mighty tech company, wheeling and dealing on Taranis? Or perhaps you’d like to become the foremost expert on all things Eulutian? Don’t be shy, send us a message and let us know what you’d most like to see happen next!

That’s all I’ve got today, come back next week for more news and updates!

Era: The Chosen – What Are The Lost Lands, Anyway?

Hi everyone!

The Lost Lands: what are they, how did they come to be?

The answer to the second question, no-one really knows*. Theories abound, but they are all baseless.

This area is some kind of “bridge dimension” between the mutually destructive dimensions of Aether and Erebus.

Our universe is young, expanding and full of life. Erebus is a dying universe – it’s even said that the Anonassi once roamed the stars, untold eons ago.

If matter from the two collide, it usually results in death: neither human nor Anonassi can survive in the other’s universe for more than about a minute.

The Lost Lands contains elements of both universes, and the several hundred square miles of ground progresses from sheer darkness to an increasingly bright grey as you approach Aether. While the light is unpleasant to the Anonassi, they are capable of standing it within the Lost Lands indefinitely.

This makes the Lost Lands our battleground, as Chosen. If we can fight them back from here, we can contain them and protect everyone in Aether.

– Ed

*Obviously, I do know, as the creator – it’s just not revealed in the first book!

Spotlight on Consortium Comics! – The Oracle

Last week I gave you all a brief rundown of what we’ve done so far with our Empowered comics. Today I have a chance to do the same for our Era: The Consortium comics series. The Consortium was the first title in the Era line of games and it’s only right that it was also the place we started when we began to make our first forays into the world of comic book creation. Some of you might remember our earliest books but even if you’re entirely new this should be a fun way to reminisce and get a glimpse of things yet to come. So, let’s start with our very first comic…

The Last Stand of Stiletto Unit is the epic story of how 8 people changed the Consortium. If you’ve sat with us at a convention and played a Consortium session you’ll likely recognize this story and its cast of memorable heroes. We even have a collection of miniature Stiletto Unit figures coming soon!

The next comic that we created was Counting Down From One. In this story a group of time travellers attempt to stop the powers that control the Consortium from taking complete control. If the idea of time travel sounds like something you’re interested in you should definitely check out our Patreon campaign for more timeline shifting action.

We also have a series of comics that follow the events of the Bug War. In Bug War #1, Hai_Xang Hayden, who is a well-known party girl, is put into the highest position in the Consortium when her mother dies at alien hands. This story centers on her overcoming challenges in the hopes she can convince people to fight the war she knows is coming. In Bug War #2, a Shade named Liam is sent by Hai-Xang Hayden to find out more about the Ximians. This is an action packed sequel that will decide Liam’s fate and determine if he will escape with both the information and his life! We also have Bug War #3 coming soon. This story will follow a starship, a hopeless battle, and the order to retreat. Two men with opposing views will have a choice to make whether to follow the order, or save the Consortium. Plenty of drama and action in this series to keep you up late at night!

Another comic on its way through development is DISARMed, created by Johnathan Lewis, our Head of Comics. This story is about a group of mech pilots who have a disagreement… with disastrous consequences!

Ed and Johnathan have plenty more ideas to fill out the Consortium universe so keep a close eye out and you’ll see quite a few more Consortium comics coming your way!

That’s all I have for you today, come back on Saturday for a look at the upcoming titles Ed is considering for the Consortium. You’ll even have a chance to give us some feedback on where we should go next!

See you then!

Empowered Update 5 – Unfortunate News…

Hi everyone…

I’m really sorry to have to announce this, but several risks I have been monitoring for a while have unfortunately come to fruition and we won’t be able to deliver the Core Rulebooks before the end of May.

I could try to rush this, but it would mean cutting out a LOT of artwork (which I don’t want to do), and rushing through several other things. I’m not willing to give you a low-quality product, so I’m going to say right now that it won’t make that date.

The Kickstarter commitment of August is something I am still very confident we can achieve, however!

We’re still working at full pace and we may be able to have something to offer… watch this space…

For now, here’s some more info on where the book is at:

Writing is almost entirely complete, with only the Worked Examples and a few Campaigns still to be finished.

Artwork is also coming on nicely – this image is a new favourite of mine, the Part 1 Title Page:

Part 1 Title Page - Websafe

There’s still a lot of artwork to do, as well as quite a lot of flow charts and similar additions to the book, so we’re still working hard on those!

Now I’m going to stop writing this and go to make the Worked Example pages – that’s always fun, it involves a lot of dice rolling and beating people up with superpowers!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

– Ed

Another Expansion Book Has Been Delivered – The Oracle

It’s time to mark down another successfully completed Expansion book! The team has worked hard and finished Time Travel Part 4 which has now been sent out to all backers. The printers are currently working on producing the physical copies. That’s one more Consortium Expansion down!

Home Base is still being developed but we’re getting closer to the end of this one as well. The images are all complete and right now Ed is working on the write-ups. Home Base will have several example ships for you which will include the number of slots available for you to install the base’s components. Today’s feature image is one such ship. This ship, with its red-boxed zones, will be a handy way for you to determine just where you’re going to place the engine core, skunworks, general quarters, and any other element that you’d like to include.

We’re getting closer to the end of our second Consortium Expansion series. I’ll be following along as it all gets finished up and we move on to our next big Consortium project. Keep checking here to see what’s happening next and be sure to stop by our table at MCM Comicon May 25-27th in London to play a Consortium session with one of our expert Game Masters!

See you next week for more news and updates.

https://www.era-games.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Untouched_Final2.jpg

Hi everyone!

I’ll get back to another of the clans soon, but by now, you’re probably wanting a little more information on what the Anonassi are.

They are the denizens of the dark dimension known as “Erebus”. Upon discovering the Lost Lands and the humans who live within it, they conquered it and began to encroach on our universe, which we refer to as “Aether”.

The Anonassi is a collective term for many forms of warrior from that dimension. Pictured here is the “Brute”, but there are many other types which I’ll introduce you to over the weeks and months ahead.

They all have the ability to open portals at will between their realm and the Lost Lands, and between the Lost Lands and our world. Humans don’t (they have to wait for one to open and pass through it!), giving them a great advantage.

These creatures have a complex society of their own, which Humans do not fully understand. Even so, over the century of the Anonassi War, we have been able to push them back, winning gradual victories.

If they can be driven back into Erebus and the link cut, our universe may yet be saved.

Spotlight on Era: The Empowered Comics – The Oracle

In just a few weeks Shades of Vengeance will be appearing at MCM Comicon in London with our first-ever booth inside the Comics Village. In celebration of our upcoming comic book showcase I’m going to take today and talk entirely about what we’ve already created as well as where we’re heading in the world of Era: The Empowered Comics.

As some of you might remember, our first Empowered comic was about Chris ‘Lacuna’ Jameson and his life-changing encounter with two other Empowered. In his debut comic, Lacuna learned that he had to use more than brute force to defeat some enemies and even allies sometimes come with secrets. Lacuna was our first foray into superpowered comics and we’ve been on a roll ever since!

The Blue-Shift: Frenemies comic recently completed a run through Kickstarter and has already been finished and sent out to backers. Our resident speedster has proven to be a very popular character and Ed is currently planning her next adventure. Another comic which has recently completed a successful Kickstarter event is Violete: Unstoppable. The support for this book was so fantastic that we ended up reaching the double-length goal! This means we’ll all have twice as much fun and action to enjoy.

Ed has plans to combine these three comics into a Trade Paperback which will be available for the first time at MCM Comicon! That’s just one more great reason to come visit us in the Comics Village.

Of course, no discussion of Empowered comics could be complete without talking about Penumbra, one of our mainstay characters. Penumbra already has issue #1 and #2 released which are spin-off stories involving her various heists and exploits as she roams the world of the Empowered, stealing for the highest bidder. These two titles aren’t related to each other or the storyline of the rulebook. However, there is another Penumbra comic in the works which will follow the series of Lacuna, Blue-Shift and Violete. We’re planning to lead these comics toward a fantastic crossover story for all these characters.

Things are just warming up in terms of Empowered comics and Ed has plans for many more titles, some of which will include all new characters that you haven’t seen before such as Lobo (our unempowered martial artist) and Melqart (the cybernetically-enhanced creation of a madman). There’s also another adventure on the way for Lacuna. There are plenty of reasons to love Empowered comics and we don’t plan on cutting back any time soon so stick around and I’ll keep you up to date with each book as it develops!

That’s it for today. I’ll have a quick Consortium update for you on Saturday so be sure to come back and check out where we’re heading!
