Era: The Empowered, Special News Edition – The Oracle

Welcome to our Special News Edition. Today we are dedicating the entire day to Era: The Empowered! Chances are good that you’re at least somewhat familiar with our upcoming 90’s-style superhero game. We released a primer some time ago and we’ve introduced you to a few of this game’s characters through our Penumbra and Lacuna comics but there is still so much more to show you!

Right now, Ed is working with many different concept artists to imagine and even in a few cases re-imagine everything about our characters. The writing team is weaving together some fantastic stories using our new style guide and I think you’ll love what we’re coming up with. The game will offer you at least four different scenarios to play in; everything from discovering your powers, to an invasion by the people of Atlantis, to an apocalyptic event that we’re counting on you to prevent!

Curious to know who you’ll be playing as? Ed’s let me share with you some of the concept artwork for Empowered to help you get a feel for a few of the characters that you might run into…

Bastion and Hack are both a couple of beastly looking fellas. I can’t tell you what side of the moral compass they’re on but the first looks like someone I definitely wouldn’t want to arm wrestle and the second looks like he could program my toaster to kill mode. I bet you’re wondering about that assassin. Well, she’s a mystery you’re just going to have to wait to unravel.

15942053_10211101186262195_54374306_n 16121419_10158126420830077_454802915_o 15910416_10211082541076077_474223900_n

Meet Harbinger, Hathor, and K’Jarr. Each of these characters are deadly fascinating. One of them has lived their entire life at the bottom of the sea and another is trying desperately to push Empowered to the very limits of their skills… even if it kills them.

Hephaestus is our last Empowered character today. I’m not gonna lie, he’s far from our friendliest character. Some of you are gonna love him, some of you are gonna hate him but hopefully all of you will enjoy his part of this expansive world.

So, that’s a brief look at a few of the characters you haven’t heard about from this game. We’re working hard to build a brand new world and stock it with amazing heroes and villains. All in all, things are moving quite well and we’re looking at completion around the middle of this year. Time flies so be sure to check back here for all the pressing details.

Era: the Empowered day wouldn’t be complete without at least a snippet of a story for you. So, I’m sharing an early draft of something that I’ve been working on.

How Many Do We Need?

A commotion inside the small shipping warehouse at the edge of Werner’s Fishing supply docks in Manhattan caused a stir among the wharf cats. Three mongrel felines yowled and sped away as a black hole in the tin roof opened up and spat out a hoodie wearing boy. He tumbled through the air, spitting curses as he flew. Just before he struck the water, another black disc opened on the waves and swallowed him whole.

Lacuna slid back inside the warehouse from a portal opening on the wall and moved to plop down on a dusty couch. “I thought you could use some help. I said I was sorry.” Violete glared at him, pulling the edges of a bath towel around her soapy dripping chest.

“The next time, I’m going to throw you all the way back to Chicago you little-”

“Give the kid a break,” Penumbra said as she lounged on top of Zoey’s workstation, watching the animator bring to life a collection of nets, harpoons, crab baskets, and boat oars. The golems were hard at work creating the young girl’s inventions. “All your telekinesis and you were never tempted to dip a toe on the other moral side?”

“We don’t all abuse our powers, Penumbra.” Violete huffed. “We’re not criminals, like you.”

“And that’s what makes you a lot less interesting, darling.”

Thanks for sticking with us, we’ll see you next time!

Kickstarter Updates and a Free Game! – The Oracle

Just arrived, Time Travel 1 to all Kickstarter backers! Thank you to everyone who helped support us. Enjoy your copy and let us know what you think. If you’re bummed that you don’t have the chance to play this game then come get onboard with our Patreon campaign. ( https://www.patreon.com/SoV ) You can still join us!

Ed and the whole team are proud of what we’ve put together. This project has been a year’s worth of campaigns that were developed and produced as we worked on understanding Kickstarter. Now, we’ve updated and improved those campaigns and we think that you’re really going to enjoy it!

So, where are we at with the expansions? Time Travel 2 is currently being worked on. As far as the rest of the expansions go, we still expect to meet the timelines for digital versions and even include the Stretch Goals as well by the end of February! The timetable for our printed versions for everything that was promised in the Kickstarter still looks achievable for everything except Revival and Time Travel 3 which is a bit uncertain. Even with those exceptions we still expect to get the books out to everyone by the end of February!

For those who are expecting physical copies of Revival and Time Travel 3, we will be sending the group together so those are going to arrive slightly later. Trying to deliver all the Stretch Goals on the same timeline has been difficult. However, we appreciate and are grateful for everyone’s understanding about the delayed arrival.

I just have one more thing to share with you today. Do you know someone who hasn’t tried the Consortium yet? It may seem impossible but there are people out there who haven’t experienced this game. Please share this page with anyone who’d like to give Consortium a try and they’ll receive a free copy of the Consortium primer. Not a bad deal!

Until next time!

Game Developments and Chosen Images – The Oracle

I’ve plenty to talk about today so let’s buckle up and get going!

All of our games are kicking into production-high-gear mode and it seems like none is moving faster than Champion of Earth. More images for this card intensive game are coming in every day. Ed’s been absolutely swamped with checking art and story content. Crossing all fingers and toes, we’re hoping this game will be ready for Kickstarter very soon!

Also cramming Ed’s inbox full of new content is Era: The Empowered. Stories and artwork are flying in. I’ve had a chance to check out some of the re-imagined character concepts and they’re especially fabulous. In honor of all that hard work, I’ve been instructed by Ed to search through our story cache and come up with something to share for you all next week. What are you in the mood for, a bit of comedy or something a bit more dark and dramatic?

As long as I’ve brought it up, Era: The Chosen, our dark and dramatic horror game is also moving along on schedule. The team is producing some awesome stuff and I’m pleased to share with you a couple of images that will give you a taste for the feel of this new rpg. Ed is working with the fabulous J.A. Cummings to get this project written and we’re excited to have her join us. I’ll be giving you a sneak peak of a story from this game in just a few short weeks so keep an eye out. While you wait, check out these dark beasts… something tells me they’re out for more than just a moonlight stroll.

Hellhound2 Unhuman

Along with all the new content we also have some new team members coming on board. These folks are with us just to help develop new games! Ed will be sharing more about those upcoming projects over the next few weeks and months so check back with us often to make sure you don’t miss something exciting!

Stay tuned because things are moving fast!

Dice and Stuff to do live Q&A!

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently been contacted by Adam, the GM of the podcast Dice and Stuff, which has done a long-running Era: The Consortium podcast.

Those guys are going to do a live Q&A in February. I was told it would probably be around 6pm GMT (1pm EST) on a Saturday or Sunday at the start of February, and they’ll be answering all kinds of questions about podcasting, their storylines and much more!

Don’t miss it, I think it’ll be awesome! I’ll update you when I know more.

Extending the Revival Expansion – The Oracle

I have some good news and I have some great news for you today. First, the good news. Time Travel Campaign Part 1 is close to final! It’s undergoing a last proofread and should be sent out next week. Parts 2 and 3 are with Ed and he is in the process of working through them. So, you’ll have something new in your inbox very soon to get you going on the Time Travel series. I love the series but don’t get me started on all that going back in the past and butterfly effect changes, it makes my eyes cross!

Now, on to the great news. Ed and John, during the process of developing and writing the Revival expansion, have realized that they want this story to be bigger than they originally planned. In order to fit in everything they’ve got rolling around in their combined imaginations, and let’s not get into how much that must be, they’re extending the story to make sure they do it justice. We’ll know soon if all this extra detail will cause a slight delay but more story is definitely a good thing. Can’t wait to see what they’ve created!

We’re heading towards the end of our first month in 2017 but there’s still time to get in on the monthly Patreon rewards. Patrons receive insider benefits before anyone else and have the opportunity to help steer the direction of the campaign. It’s not too late to give it a try! ( https://www.patreon.com/SoV )

See you next week!

Champion of Earth Images – The Oracle

I only have one bit of business news for you before I get into the fabulous artwork I’ve got hidden up my sleeve today. Ed has hired a marketing professional to help us introduce the Era games to more players! We’re really thrilled to have another person join our team and if you or someone you know would also like to pitch in and help spread the word, please drop us a line. We have plenty of ideas on how you can fit in with our amazing group.

So now, settle in for a ton of great images because Ed’s taken pity on us and sent over a whole handful of artwork from Champion of Earth. In addition to full color finished work we also get a chance to see where the concepts for some of these images began.

Going from rough sketches to a polished piece takes a lot of time and patience. As you can see, sometimes the image changes subtly like the posture of our sword wielding teleporter which gives the image a better flow. Or, the smile on OCAAM’s face which takes the mood of the image and turns it a bit more light-hearted. At least as light-hearted as you can get carrying a grisly razor.

Whether it’s filling out the backdrop details or adjusting the shadows for best effect, every little change can make a big difference. Take some time and check out this small collection of our ongoing work and feel free to let us know what you like. We’d love to hear from you!

See you next time!

The Secret War Extended Edition is out there! – The Oracle

Are you ready for the first special edition of the year? Ed has just let me know that the Secret War Expanded Edition, which is a unique version only available to the Kickstarter backers, has now been sent out in Digital Format to everyone who backed the Kickstarter! I know you’re going to love this edition because there is so much more to offer (and I even helped write the extra!).

For those of you who didn’t get a chance to jump in on the Kickstarter, you can still enjoy this special edition through our PayPal option. Just click on the big blue button that says “Join In” on our Kickstarter page! You can choose from an “a la carte menu” of our Consortium books. This is a great way to grab some extra benefits.

https://www.era-games.com/consortium-kickstarter-paypal-option/

By now, everyone knows about the Consortium rulebooks, comics, expansions, as well as all our Time Travel sessions on Patreon but did you know that we also put out a webcomic? If you haven’t been catching the weekly episodes of the Sits of Stilleto Unit you need to get in there and check it out. Our weekly webcomic (Updates Mondays) sheds some light on the off-duty moments, hijinks, and shenanigans of the Resistance’s most famous unit. This continuing series has a wealth of great moments and all the episodes are archived so you don’t have to worry about missing a thing. (sitsofstiletto.shadesofvengeance.com)

That’s it for this week, see you next time!

Don’t forget Patreon! – The Oracle

Are you one of those people who just can’t get enough of the Consortium? Here’s a couple good ways to check:

Does your roommate complain that you’re constantly plotting your next Resistance mission instead of dealing with the recycling?

Have you ever had a dream in the sacred song-like language of the Vilithii?

Do you ever wonder what you’d look like in a Eulutian suit?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then I’ve got just what you need. Our fans have a way to get new content every month and I think you’ll fit in perfectly with this great group of patrons.

At Patreon, ( https://www.patreon.com/SoV ) Ed delivers new Time Travel Campaigns every month. It’s a bit like a monthly Kickstarter that you can join whenever you like. Here’s what you get:

– For about $1 you’ll receive 3 wallpapers from our games in the monthly pack.

– At the $5 level, you get new sessions with five playable characters, setting and scenario details. As a special bonus, all the $5 level patrons will get all of the Time Travel Campaigns to date as they come out in book form! This is a special extra, so if you missed the Kickstarter, don’t miss that!

– At higher levels, the benefits include the opportunity to help develop ideas for the trajectory of the campaigns as well as having Ed run a session for you personally once per release!

It’s really a great deal and I can’t think of a better way to keep your Consortium games fresh.

Before I leave today I’m going to hand out a bit of game news. Both Champion of Earth and Chosen have their first batch of artwork coming in now. Hopefully I can convince Ed that we need to see some of this, I’m itching to get a closer look at them!

Also, and this is fabulous news for our fans who love fireball wielding assassins…and really, isn’t that all of us? Hitman is ready to finish up and head to the next phase, Kickstarter! We’ll be putting it up there just as soon as we finish delivering the Consortium expansions: Ed wants to make sure that all our efforts go into finishing up our last Kickstarter before starting another. I hope you’re all looking forward to a great new game!

See you soon!

Status of Consortium Expansions – The Oracle

Things are looking good in the world of the Consortium. Everyone is hard at work finishing up the various elements of all our expansions and Ed expects to be done mostly on schedule. So, let me tell you where each of these books are at!

The Definitive Edition Rulebook is fully written and is just awaiting Ed’s thorough check of the new content before sending it out for proofreading! Only a bit more polish on this one and we can call it finished.

Time Travel Campaign Part 1 is currently with the proofreaders now. We’re waiting to hear back so that any last-minute adjustments can be made before we call this one completed as well.

The Secret War Extended Edition (which is a unique reward for Kickstarter backers) is with the proofreader but still waiting for the last batch of brand new artwork to arrive. Once that’s done we’ll be ready to finish layout on the Era: The Consortium Expansions- Volume 1 Hardcover!

Time Travel Campaign Part 2 is just now being checked over by Ed. He’s hoping to finish this next week and then it will be off to the proofreaders right away.

Time Travel Campaign Part 3 is completing the writing stage this week and then it will be going to Ed for checking.

Revival is the one that’s been giving us the most challenges in that it’s required more work than expected. We may not be able to deliver the digital version on quite the same schedule as all the others. However, it was the last Stretch Goal unlocked so I suppose it makes sense that it will be the last of our books to line up for completion. We thank our Kickstarter backers for their patience and understanding. All of the other rewards have already been delivered in digital format so I’d call that fairly well done, wouldn’t you agree?

So, that just leaves us with the future of the Consortium to talk about. As I’m sure you’re well aware, when the Consortium Expansion Kickstarter finished there were still some great expansions that ended up being left on the table, so to speak. Well, we’re nothing if not thorough and I’m pleased to tell you that Ed has plans to continue development of those as well as other expansions to the Consortium universe. We’ll be starting work on Free Trader and The Resistance Sourcebook within 2017. So, make room on that gaming shelf because we’re about to fill it up with some amazing expansions this year!

See you next time!

Things To Look Forward To In The New Year – The Oracle

Welcome back! I see you’ve all made it safely through the end of 2016 and hopefully you’re just as excited about this next year as we are. Ed has plans for an amazing year and we’re all going to be hard at work to make those plans a reality. So, should I start with what you can expect from us in the next 52 weeks? Follow me!

Our first big edition for this year will be Era: The Empowered. This superpowered RPG will focus on an international cast of characters with colorful background stories, fully developed artwork and an expansive history chronicling a wide arc of time through the series. Ed has some big plans for this game and I know it’s going to knock your socks off.

Through the Christmas holiday we’ve been working on several areas of development. The artwork is beginning to flow and the new style guide for story structure is in place. Ed has even brought on 2 new concept artists to the team, which is going to help broaden the visual creativity. We expect to be releasing this game in the first half of this year, right around the same time as the May/June conventions for MCM and UKGE. Keep checking back because pieces are going to be falling into place rather soon for this one.

Another game which is nearly complete and almost ready for Kickstarter is Era: Hitman. This assassin-with-a-twist game is just going through the final finishing touches now. We’re waiting on the last 2 images and finishing off the character sheet and flow charts. This Pocket Edition will be coming out soon so be sure to check back often for details.

Those of you who are eagerly anticipating an addition to the Era: Survival universe will be pleased to hear that “The Swarm” Source Book now has all of the artwork complete and Ed expects to get it available on Kickstarter soon. The plan is to deliver this book within the first half of the year, most likely around April. Do you think you’re ready for a deeper look into one of Era: Survival’s most dangerous group of citizens?

Moving on down through 2017 the next thing you can expect to see coming your way is our card game. Perhaps you’ll remember from playing this at one of our convention appearances, or perhaps you’ll remember from all the times we’ve talked about it in news posts. Either way, you’ll be thrilled to know that Champion Earth is in the midst of an art explosion! Everyone who’s played this game has loved it and we can’t wait to make it available. Even with all that we’re hoping to accomplish in the first half of 2017 we still plan to finish this game around the end of May. We’ll be working hard to make that happen!

So, that marks the big events coming in the first half of the year but we still have other projects we’re working on that will carry us through to the end of the end. Our newest game, Era: The Chosen, is about 25% written and artwork for that game will start this year with a projected finish by the end of 2017. I’ll be sending out details as I get them from Ed so stay tuned.

The other game I can tell you we’re looking at expanding this year is Era: Lyres. We’ve got a few ideas on directions for this game and I’ll be working with Ed to try and find something that adds to the universe of the game in the same fun and unpredictable style as the original. More fantastical stories and bizarre tales almost too impossible to be believed will be coming your way!

We have an amazing year ahead and we’re thrilled to have you all join us. There will be something new coming for nearly all of our games and whether you’re someone who loves the depth of Consortium, the spine tingling horror of Survival, or the thrill of something new, we’re sure to have something this year that you’ll love!

Don’t forget that you can always find new monthly sessions for the Consortium available on our Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/SoV). We may expand this to include some of our other games as well so keep an eye out for that!

Welcome to the new year and I’ll see you next time!

It’s a Wonderful Consortium – The Oracle Christmas Special

Transom street, which once ended at the bottom of a hill in a sweeping cul de sac, was now little more than a line of shelled out buildings falling in on themselves. Fighting between Smertios soldiers and Resistance units had left the entire neighborhood in a scatter of rubble.

Several high-end shops had been blown away, throwing stone and dirt in a wide arc through the street. Cold air froze puddles of water and turned breath to icy fog and yet from between the broken concrete walls of one remaining shelter, a thin curl of smoke spread out into the frigid night air. A glow of warmth emanated from between cracks in the walls where inside, a metal barrel filled with table legs and broken beams burned. Four humans and one Vilithii gathered around the heat, sharing laughter and stories.

“Makeba, toss that can of beans over here.” A fist sized canister whistled over Dieter’s head while he bandaged Makeba’s leg. The other man reclined in a sofa and bent his head low, fiddling with a radio propped on his lap. Rohit “Rocket” Hazarika snatched the beans out of the air and popped open the top.

“Don’t be stingy, man.” Rodriguez plopped on the capsized cushion of a seat close by and dug in with his fingers.

A heavy piece of metal scrap, which took the place of a door, squealed and announced the arrival of a Ximian and a small human woman. Chituxtu muscled the door closed again behind them. Bridgette Maloney slapped her hands together, blew inside her closed fists and cursed.

“What kind of idiot would start a war in the middle of winter.” She laughed and the others laughed with her.

“Good news,” she pronounced, taking a cup of hot tea from Bending Waves. “Chituxtu got the Rover working. Some kind of bypass with the electrical system. It’s not code, but it’ll work enough to get us back to base.”

There was a round of applause and Chixtuxtu was offered a hot drink and more food. Static screeched into the air. Everyone fell silent and turned to look at Makeba, his leg now entirely bandaged and raised on pillows, sat back from the the long range radio and returned a few tools to his bag.

“Just had to tweak my spare power cell,” he smiled and adjusted the levels. The radio squelched and buzzed and resolved into a thick voice.

“Falcata Unit distress signal received.” The voice said through more static. “Food rations on their way.”

“Three days too late, boys.” Rodriguez shouted at the radio and slapped his stomach.

“Transport arriving one hour at your location.” The room turned somber.

Rohit stood and cleared his voice. “Well, I think that’s our cue.” He helped Makeba to stand and threw an arm under the man’s shoulder.

“Thanks for the repairs and the bandages.” Rohit shook Rodriguez’s hand and tipped his head to Bending Waves and Chituxtu.

“We thank you for the food.” Chituxtu raised a can of beans in salute.

Bridgette and Dieter strapped on their Smertios uniforms, loaded their weapons and joined Rohit and Makeba at the scrap metal door. Rohit faced the Resistance fighters. When they saw each other after today things would be different.

“One day of peace a year,” Rohit smiled. “It’s not a bad start.”

A Year to Celebrate – The Oracle

This is it folks, we’re looking at the end of 2016. Grab a glass of your favorite beverage and help me toast to a job well done, new friends, and an amazing team of creators.

It’s truly impressive to think back on all that we’ve done. I know I’ve learned a lot this past year and had a chance to try a few new things. Personally, I had a blast creating my first ever comic and I hope to get another chance again soon.

Last Friday, Ed gave us a detailed list of comics, games, Kickstarters, and conventions we had done through the year and I was surprised that we’d accomplished so much! It took hard work and I’m sure plenty of sleepless nights for Ed but we ended up with an amazing year. A great deal of our success we owe to you, the fans who keep pushing us to make new and better games. Thank you for supporting us in this crazy adventure!

So, before I leave you for the year I’ve got to know… which game will you be playing through the midnight celebrations on December 31st?

Era: Survival – Do you fancy a dark and terrifying new year where you’ll be tested on your ability to combat horrifying Infected with cruel efficiency?

Era: Lyres – Are you the kind of person who wants to ring in the next year with a laugh while trying to fool everyone into thinking you’re a massive hero?

Era: Silence – Do you want something completely new and unique, like nothing you’ve ever played before? Be prepared for some wild hand signals and body language because in-character conversation is off limits.

Era: The Consortium – Are you in the mood to bring a little intrigue, action, betrayal, and conspiracy to your new year? This game has it all and you have over 500 years of events to choose from. And did I mention there are time travel sessions?

I’m not sure which one your favorite will be but there’s plenty to choose from. For me, I think I’ll be ringing in the New Year with some laughs.

As our final send off for the year, I’m working on a Consortium flash fiction piece. You can expect to read that on Saturday. That will mark the end of our news posts for 2016 and we’ll meet you right back here in 2017!

Until next time!

Touching Base – The Oracle

I don’t have a lot of time today but still wanted to swing by and give you a few quick status updates. Ed has let me know that the first proofreading pass for Time Travel 1 is done and we are currently working through the second pass now. Time Travel 2 is approaching the end of writing and I expect will be shortly following the first book through proofreads. We’re working every day to bring you the best game experience we can offer.

Would you like to know more about what we do and how we go about making games? We’d love to hear from you! Chat with us on Twitter [https://twitter.com/Shades_of_Venge], Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/shadesofvengeance/] or send us a message on our website  [https://www.era-games.com/enquiries/]. We’re always ready to talk!

I want to give a quick shoutout to the fabulous people who stopped in last weekend at Dragonmeet and talked with us about Era: The Consortium. We love sharing all the games we make but Consortium is a company favorite and we love it when people ask to talk about it. There we loads of people interested and we thank you for taking the time to come talk with the team!

Dragonmeet was a roaring success but there was one thing that could have gone a little better. Because we were so busy with the convention, we didn’t notice until it was too late that we had missed putting out the Patreon session on time. We tried using a scheduling tool but something seems to have gone terribly wrong with it. We sincerely apologize for the error and we’re looking into how we can fix this if it ever comes up again. I hope you enjoy the new content!

For anyone who has no idea what I’m talking about, check out our Patreon page [https://www.patreon.com/SoV] where fans can get new monthly content. It’s a great way to keep your adventures fresh!

Coming back next week with a few more updates and it looks like we’re going to be counting down to the end of 2016!

See ya’ll next time!

2016 Retrospective

Hi everyone!
Another year has passed already. Honestly, I can hardly believe it. But we are here and 2016 has been a very different year to any previous to this, so I thought I would cover the things that we’ve achieved this year, as well as adding a few thoughts about where we are going.
We have done more production this year than ever before, with no fewer than 7 Kickstarters run successfully, between games and comics. We have attended more conventions than ever before and played our games with an amazing number of people. 2016 has been a year of full-on game production, an attempt to see whether people would continue to be interest in a myriad ideas that I have for games. We have been fortunate enough to find you, the fans who are making this continue to be possible, who have made this year have not just a remarkable level of production but also one which shines a light forward.
Entering 2017, we are not wondering what we can do any longer. I believe that is one of the strongest statements that can be made by a company in our phase of development.
I am getting a little ahead of myself, however.
Here are a few of the things we did in 2016:
Conventions

We have attended a lot of conventions and been pleased to do so. Investigating smaller conventions has given us the chance to introduce new people to Tabletop Roleplaying Games, and we have not ceased our regular appearances.
You might have seen us at:
  • London Anime and Gaming Con (February)
  • London Gaming Market (April)
  • MCM Comicon London (May)
  • UK Games Expo (June)
  • StrategyGamingCon (September)
  • MCM Comicon London (October)
  • Dragonmeet (December)
But that is not all: with the help of Envoy, our games have been visiting conventions across the US as well!
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank both every Envoy herald and the team that works with me on the UK-based conventions. We couldn’t do this without the dedication that you guys bring to the mix.
At these conventions, we have had the opportunity to demonstrate our games, run panels on game design and meet a huge number of amazing people. We will certainly be doing more conventions next year, and you will be able to find out what by keeping an eye out right here!
Games
I have produced more this year than ever before. We have several books still outstanding for Era: The Consortium, but we have succeeded across the board in delivering ahead of schedule, to the degree that a few people even commented on it at Dragonmeet!
So here are the games and what has happened with them this year:

Era: The Consortium (2 Kickstarters)
This year has very much been my opportunity to prove what I said last year: Era: The Consortium’s Core Rulebook is only the beginning of the journey.
We ran a successful Kickstarter for The Secret War expansion at the beginning of the year, delivered well ahead of schedule… and then decided to up the ante a little.
Our second Kickstarter offered anywhere up to 18 expansions, based on Stretch Goal unlocks. It brought an unprecedented level of support to Era: The Consortium – we unlocked 8 books and had almost £10,000 pledged in the end (including PayPal)!
We have already delivered 4 of these books, with 2 more being actively written, 1 being proofread and 1 in the queue. I believe there is every probability that we will deliver these before the end of January in Digital form.
That wasn’t the major headline of the campaign for me, though. We are also producing a Definitive Edition Rulebook for Era: The Consortium, which has over 100 pages of unique, new content never seen before. Some of it is stuff I had to cut from the initial rulebook for length reasons, and other parts are brand new. It is going to be amazing and the first piece of a new hardback set for the game.
Seeing Era: The Consortium achieve this has been an incredible experience for me. Add to that the nomination for Game of the Year at UKGE… almost unbelievable stuff to me, a small game creator.
Era: The Consortium still isn’t done: There are at least 10 more books out there, if not more! We will see what we can do about developing some during 2017, but I am not ready to make promises until we have delivered our current Kickstarter, for obvious reasons!
Era: Lyres (1 Kickstarter)
When I ran the Kickstarter for Era: Lyres in 2015, I considered it a fun little experiment that was finished. We could sell some more copies, but that would be about it.
A suggestion was made to me a year ago (at Dragonmeet) by John Dodd that we should cut it down to an A5 book. We ran a Kickstarter to see if people were interested and they really were!
Era: Lyres Pocket Edition is now the single game which we have sold the most copies of this year.
What is next for Era: Lyres? That is a good question… Is there something you want to see? Contact us and tell us!
Era: The Empowered
For this year, Era: The Empowered has been “the one that got away”, at least in game terms – I will talk comics later.
Between personal crises for the team members, an uncertain direction on artwork and other things taking up my time, Empowered has not had the attention I wanted to give it.
However, we are now back on track. We have set aside the budget, we have fogured out the new direction for the artwork and we have finalised the mechanics.
Writing has begun on the fiction, artwork has begun and we are aiming to finish production in the first half of next year – no more waiting!
I think you will be pleased with what we have in mind.
Era: Survival (1 Kickstarter)
Era: Survival has been a lot more popular than I ever expected!
The addition of cards as something I really liked and it has proven expensive but worth it. The fans love them too, I already had to make a second order!
According to feedback at Dragonmeet, people feel there aren’t many survival horror RPGs around and welcome this addition to our universe.
And so, I am pleased to be able to tell you that the first Source Book is actually underway right now! Artwork is almost complete and the writing is ongoing. I expect to be presenting it to Kickstarter in the next few months, and I think you will really like what The Swarm has to offer.
We have a second sourcebook, “Aqua”, planned for 2017 or 2018, and the popularity of The Swarm and Era: Survival in general will decide when that is.
Era: Survival is definitely a game you can expect to see more of!
Era: Silence (1 Kickstarter)
This is an odd one. It is a game that I believe is truly innovative, but it is very hard to convince experienced roleplayers that it is worth a try.
The Kickstarter went extremely well, but the same explanation doesn’t seem to work in person.
I think we haven’t figured out how to explain it properly, to be honest.
We will keep working on it, because every group (okay, it was 3 groups…) who played it with us both loved it and bought a copy, and that proves what a great game it is!
Era: Hitman
Our next pocket RPG is close to completion. A little graphic design, editing and proofreading is all that is left. This will likely be the next RPG Kickstarter you see from us.
And, for those of you who don’t know what this is… imagine the Hitman game… but working as a team… in a world where you and your targets can have superpowers.
I will leave the rest to your imagination!
Era: The Chosen
I am currently working on a horror game, aiming for mid-late 2017.
Jody, an experienced author in the genre, is working with me on this and between the two of us we have come up with something really special. The Era d10 Rule Set lends itself excellently to this genre and the story we have created contains not just modern era gameplay, but everything from Renaissance technology, through Napoleonic era weaponry to a near-future-ish (Turok inspired) level of technology.
More about that right here over the coming months!
Champion of Earth
Our first card game has had a rocky development process. It started with a lot of people liking it but having something against it that they were unsure of.
As a game which has a sense of humour about itself, had to be simple enough for anyone to pick up and have fun and requiring well over 100 images, this was a new challenge for us.
Fortunately, hard work paid off. We did some fantastic playtests at UKGE, Dragonmeet and elsewhere and have fixed the mechanics to a point where everyone is satisfied.
Artwork is now underway and I think you can expect to see this during the first half of next year!
Personally, I can’t wait!
Comics

This year is the first time we have produced a large volume of comic titles.
We have made a decision as a company that we want to do more of this. We do a lot of comic conventions and our comics are, in general, received very well.
Johnathan Lewis, my right hand, is picking up the comics aspect with some help from me, and will be producing more during 2017, you can be sure.
Lacuna and Penumbra
We have recently delivered these, and the only complaint we had was that people wanted more comics starring the characters!
We are working on more things, but Lacuna’s return will have to wait a little longer – the Empowered universe is very large and we have at least 5 more stories to tell first!
Consortium Comics
It was announced some time ago that a Hai-Xang Hayden comic is underway. It is actually almost complete and will be the first comic project in the new year.
Production Summary
When you consider that we have made 15 products during this year – that is more than one a month, you can see that we have had a busy year.
We have made a lot of great games and grown the number of people playing them. That is brilliant, and definitely the right direction.
We have also managed to have 2 of our 5 games break even, bringing in a profit equal to their development cost. I am currently funding most of this personally, with whatever Kickstarter brings in adding to what I can give.
And in a busy year, there are always…
Mistakes in 2016
Mistakes happen, it is how you learn, and that is fine. I have certainly made my share this year.
Volume of Products
This has been a very busy year, without doubt the busiest we have ever done, and I have personally scraped very close to burnout on more than one occasion.
At the end of last year, we held a strategy meeting and agreed that we needed more games to prove that we were serious about game creation, not a one-gane studio which would never push further. I worked accordingly, as the lead creator, to bring several of my ideas to fruition.
I do not think the volume we have produced was a mistake, but maintaining my drive to deliver everything when other people became unable to assist was not the best course.
I think we have proven an ability to produce a wide range of games this year, and I believe that we should slow down a litle bit for 2017.
Exchange Rates
With GBP and USD exchange rates what they currently are, we have fewer resources than at the beginning of the year.
Because of Kickstarter’s rules, we have to use a UK bank account, which means that almost all of our income is in GBP and our outgoings are in USD.
This poses some obvious issues which we need to resolve. We have not yet figured out how to deal with this, but are working on it.

Team Size
I touched on this under volume, but it has become clear to me during this year that I am wearing too many hats and doing too many things in a way that is not expert enough.
Marketing is the big one here – I am not suited to it personally and, while I learn everything I can, I don’t have the time to devote to it.
As a result, we are going to be looking hard for some more people to join the team in 2017, especially in marketing but I am also looking for someone to take ownership of a couple of the roadmaps for games. Era: The Consortium will probably always stay with me, but most of the others need careful forward thinking that I don’t have the brain space for.
For most of this year, I have been working 40 hours a week at a paid job and then an extra 60 or so on SoV (the weeks where I was on holiday, I just worked 60-100 hours on SoV!) and I am fairly sure I won’t be able to keep that up for ever.
In short, we need to become less of a one-man band as a company and have a few more people running around, instead of just me, if we want to keep growing!
So I should say… if you are reading this and are thinking you might like to do some work with us as a part-time thing, contact us! I would be happy to talk to you.

Website
I have been unhappy with our website for a long time and this year I made an effort to improve it.
In many respects, we succeeded, but the amount of time, effort and money it took was a lot more than I expected. We have spent a large chunk of our limited resources on that and, looking back, it probably has not made much difference.
Direct sales are easier all-round – you no longer have to wait for me to Email you the book, it is downloadable from the purchase screen – but few of those occur, most of our sales come from Kickstarter or conventions.
While I would still like some improvements, it has dropped down the list for now in terms of priorities.
Marketing Practice
One of the hardest things for any creative person to do, according to everyone I have met, is to market their products.
We are no exception: we struggle to get penetration. Audiences of 200 or so are fantastic, way better than the 100 or so we achieved at the end of last year, but it isn’t enough to continue to grow at the rate we want to.

Fringe Projects
I am including this under mistakes because we have spent a fair amount of money and not yet achieved anything in this area.
I have a lot of ideas and dreams. I want to have miniatures. I want to make a computer game. I want an automated character creator. And much more.
We have spent some money on developing towards these things, particularly miniatures this year, and they have not yielded much so far.
Miniatures themselves are actually looking fairly encouraging – we are making progress… but we aren’t there yet. In terms of the strategy, we need to start achieving these things when we put money towards them – too much is half-done.
What should you expect for 2017?
2017 is going to be a little bit different to 2016.
Rather than focusing wholly on production, we are going to be looking into how to best market our games and company. We have already agreed a fairly aggressive marketing budget for next year.
That doesn’t mean we are stopping production, though: Era: The Consortium will have more expansions, Hitman and Chosen are expected, along with Champion of Earth. I may also create one other game which I have been working on for a while – more on that when I decide.
You can expect to see a number of comics from us next year as we work to complete our Empowered set and the Bug War graphic novel (of which the Hai-Xang Hayden comic is the first part).
I am looking forward to 2017 as a year where we are able to spread the word and get more people playing Era games (and Champion of Earth, which is technically not an Era game!)
A few final thoughts…
2016 was to be a year of proving we could take this step, and I believe we have done that.
I will continue forward with Shades of Vengeance using this knowledge. And I hope that you will continue to support this venture.
I believe that we do something with Shades of Vengeance and ImagineRPG that is valuable not just for the customers but for the people who work with us. Amongst other things, I am pleased and proud to be giving freelancers enough work to stay freelance.
We have learned a lot this year.
We have come to understand the value of marketing the games I create in a certain way – while we are not all the way to the right place, we are learning to explain them in a way that people can unserstand and get behind.
We have seen just how many projects we can run in a year, glimpsed how fast we could make games with unlimited resources even if we didn’t grow our team size.
And we have worked to maintain a high level of customer service – answering questions, delovering ahead of schedule and with more content than we had initially promised.
2016 has been hard but, overall, encouraging.

Playtesting Champion of Earth – The Oracle

Did you get a chance to see us at Dragonmeet? The event was fantastic and we were thrilled to see so many fans. Thank you for taking the time to sit down and play a game with us. Plenty of fun was had by all, especially those who tried out our latest title.

Ed and the GM’s had the opportunity to get some playtesting done at the convention for Champion of Earth. We ran the game multiple times with some fantastic players and learned a lot about what worked and what needed some tweaking. It was a fun game but I heard that Ed still lost even though he was scribbling out words and writing new ones on the cards! I suppose that’s the sort of thing only a game designer could get away with. The general opinion from those who played was that apart from a few easily-resolved wording issues we have a very solid game!

Now that convention season is over, we are in full-on production mode. The entire team is buckling in and getting to work. Some of us have gotten new writing assignments and others are well past the prep stages. Ed is busy most hours of the day shuffling from one project to the next.

You’ll probably see Ed surface for London Anime Con but other than that he’ll be deep in the inner workings of Era: Hitman, Champion of Earth, The Swarm, Era: The Chosen and Consortium expansions. I expect we won’t hear too much from him once he locks himself down to write and design. Which, let’s be honest, is good for everyone because that means we’ve got more games to look forward to. Sorry Ed, you’ll just have to schedule some time for sleep next summer.

Back on Saturday with more news!

Progress on the Expansions – The Oracle

Most of the promised rewards have been finished and are in the final delivery stage. The remaining expansions are working their way to the end and here’s the breakdown of what’s happening.

Time Travel 1 is still with the proofreaders. It needed a little more time under the heat-lamp of scrutiny than we initially expected but that’s not anything to worry about. This sort of thing happens when you’ve got two writers collaborating for the first time. As the team works more and more with our newest writers and artists things will smooth out.

The next Time Travel books, 2 and 3, are being written right now! As of my posting today, Ed and Graeme are working their way through the end of the second book. Looks like they’re making good time. All of the artwork for the Time Travel books is nearly complete and I’ve even got an image to share with you. Everything is really looking stellar with these expansions!

campaign-4-title-page2-websafe

That just leaves Revival, which is also currently in progress. Ed has spent the week writing out a skeleton version of each story and the process is well underway. Once these four books are done, that will be the end of the Wave 1 Expansions which are all the books paid for by the Kickstarter. Once again, thanks to everyone who got out there and supported us. We are thrilled to have you with us! Here’s a look at what we’ve already finished…

So, does this mean the end to the Consortium universe?

Of course not! Ed won’t just leave the Consortium alone just yet and he’s got many more expansions planned. We hope to give you a chance to see Wave 2 in 2017. This universe is going to just keep getting bigger and bigger! This next collection contains books co-written with the fabulous Darren Watts and Steffie de Vaan. We’ll have those and loads of other amazing things available through the next year so keep your eyes out for all the latest news here!

See you next time!

Rundown of the Current Status! – The Oracle

There are days working this job where we have so many things going on, I’ll be honest with you, even I don’t know everything that’s happening. Which is why it’s fantastic when Ed wants to give us a catch-up day where he lets us in on the status of everything that’s currently being worked on. He’ll also be running an end of year post in a few weeks to talk about what Shades of Vengeance has done this year. We’ve been incredibly busy and it’ll be a great reminder of how far we’ve come!

So, first up is Era: Hitman. If you’ll recall, this is our assassin game with a twist. Ed is planning a little something extra for this experience and will be including maps with our campaigns! These are going to be useful tools which will help ground you in the session we’ll be providing. I’ve been allowed to share an image so that you can get an idea of what you’ll be using. Giving you everything possible to immerse you and your players in the world of the game is one of our top priorities and we really think these maps are going to be a big hit!

villa-layout

I’m sure you’ve heard me talk quite a bit recently about Era: Empowered so you’ll be happy to know that production is finally underway! The first stories are being written in their final format and artwork is being created. At the moment, Ed is doing a talent search to find a concept artist for this project. We’re looking for someone to help nail down a few of the trickier Empowered characters. If you know an artist who you think would be perfect for this opportunity please let us know. Ed works hard to find new and undiscovered artists to slot in alongside our regular contributors. Feel free to send portfolios or artist information to Ed at: ed.jowett@era-games.com

Moving on to more game news… one of our newer titles being worked on currently is an addition to Era: Survival, titled The Swarm. Artwork is well underway and writing has begun for this closer look into our most horrific game. The Swarm are one of the most powerful factions on Gaia and this sourcebook for them should be arriving in the first half of 2017 if everything goes as planned! Survival has collected a dedicated group of fans and I’m thrilled we can give them more fantastic content to keep up with their appetites.

The last game that I’m going to talk about today is one you haven’t heard much from lately. Champion of Earth is an art intensive experience and our dedicated artist, Sofia, has been busy working on Consortium Time Travel, which is why we haven’t had much to show you. However, she is almost finished with that project and will be moving right back to working on this just as soon as the ink dries on Consortium… or whatever digital equivalent that might be. Ed is hoping to have this game ready in time for UKGE 2017 so keep watching here to follow along with developments!

This past year we had an amazing time creating new games, adding to established worlds and developing fun new things to add to your experience. It looks like 2017 is shaping up to be much the same. I can’t wait.

Don’t forget, Dragonmeet [http://www.dragonmeet.co.uk/] is happening this Saturday! Do you have someone slated to water your plants and or feed your dog? Tickets purchased? Hotel arranged? There is still time to make plans and join us in a game or two. Our GM’s would love to take you for a spin!

That’s all for me today. I’ll be back again on Saturday!

Consortium Kickstarter Rewards are Accumulating! – The Oracle

Last time we met, I talked with you about the Lacuna and Penumbra comic rewards. Today, I get the pleasure of announcing that Digital Rewards for The Fifth Race, A New Dawn, and Rapier have all arrived with backers, only two weeks after the end of the Kickstarter. That’s a pretty fast turn around!

Congratulations to everyone who’s received their reward so far and thank you so much for you confidence in us and our games. I’ve said it many times but we truly would not be here without your support.

So, where are we at with all the other rewards? Time Travel Part 1 is currently with the proofreaders and we’re hoping to hear back very soon about that one. Time Travel Parts 2 and 3, Revival, the extras for Secret War, as well as the extras for the Definitive Edition Rulebook are all being finished off as I write this. This is a ton of content but we’re all working hard to keep up the pace. Ed is encouraged by our progress and we’re hoping to finish all of them before the end of the year. This means we’re working ahead of the deadline, which is fabulous!

In honor of all that great news, Ed is releasing an image for you today.

This is Abnoab immediately after colonisation. It wasn’t originally intended to be a market, that happened some years later. Originally, it was intended as a luxury world for one part and a manufacturing center for the rest. This was all meant to take the stress off Taranis. You can read more about Abnoab and everything that happens there in our rulebook.

The team is having a great time with these expansions and there is so much more to come in the world of the Consortium so keep checking back to follow along!

See you next week!

Delivering Rewards and the Next Big Era Game! – The Oracle

Chances are good that you’re familiar with Era: The Empowered. A year ago, Ed released a Rulebook Primer for the game and since then we’ve been slowly introducing some of the characters and concepts of the world. Then again, perhaps you’ve been out of country for the last year or perhaps you’ve been locked away in some bizarre medical experiment. Either way, I’ll give you a quick rundown.

Era: The Empowered is an RPG inspired by popular 90’s era animated superhero television shows. Using the standard and sometimes not so standard formula for creating powers, Ed and the team are taking on the world of heroes and villains. Much like our other games, this one has a lengthy history full of characters that aren’t always what they may seem. Along with the traditional good vs evil battles, there are quite a few characters that blur the lines and make for fascinating study. Two of them have just been given their own comic.

Lacuna’s comic has been delivered to Ed this week with Penumbra coming along not too far behind. Ed is just waiting for some shipping materials before he can send these out. We’re anticipating these to be delivered around the end of the month which is on target with our Kickstarter expectations. To see Ed’s Kickstarter Livestream of the Lacuna physical copy, go here: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/huzza-opentok/45511822/325a9988-a033-4439-8fb4-64c4105117cd/archive.mp4

Now that these comics are finished, the team is moving on to work for the full rulebook. Right now, test artwork and test stories are being completed to help narrow our focus and make sure everyone on the team is working with the same idea in mind. It’s an exciting project and I hope you’ll keep checking back to follow our progress.

That’s it for me. Have a fantastic week and I’ll see you all Saturday!

Kickstarter Reward News – The Oracle

I have some great news for you today. The first four expansion books from our Consortium Kickstarter are finished! Ed and the team have worked hard to bring you these fabulous additions and we’re quite proud of the final products. Digital copies are ready to be sent out and the paperback edition has been requested from the printers. Completing all these expansions has been a huge milestone for the Consortium because with one big push we’ve increased the game universe exponentially. There is now so much more to explore!

If you’re one of our backers looking forward to the digital copy, you can expect to get The Secret War, The Fifth Race, Rapier, and A New Dawn as soon as we receive the money from Kickstarter. Now remember, when you get your copy don’t forget to tell us what you think! We love getting feedback about our games and we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Time Travel Part 1 is coming in just a little behind the rest of the expansion books. Right now, Ed is finalising the introductions and character sheets for this campaign. Once that’s done he’ll zap it off to the proofreaders and we’ll be on our way to calling this one finished as well. Things are coming along fantastic for this round of Kickstarter rewards and we’re pleased to see it all coming together. Thank you for helping to bring more of the Consortium to life.

If you haven’t noticed, we love giving fans more than they expect. True to form, Ed has run an idea past the backers who have pledged for hardcover editions and they’ve accepted. What this means is that now we’ll be creating one single, combined book which we will call Era: The Consortium Expansions, Volume 1. Each of the expansions offer extra abilities and equipment for players so they all fit together nicely and will make an excellent combined edition. No more having to rifle through a stack of books, you can have it all at your fingertips!

That’s all the news and behind-the-scenes info I have for you today. Check back in next week and catch up on all the latest details with me!

A New Era Game is Coming and Last Chance to Meet The Team in 2017! – The Oracle

So, the end of 2016 is heading our way. We’ve attended a ton of conventions, made an amazing amount of games, expansions, comics, and we’re not slowing down yet!

It’s been an unprecedented year for conventions. We met loads of fantastic players and got a chance to speak with many fans. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by and play a game or ask us a few questions. Without you guys we’d just be a bunch of lonely people rolling dice at a table. Thanks for joining the fun!

Don’t forget, there’s still time to come and meet the team before we wrap things up for the year so make plans to come see us at Dragonmeet on Saturday, December 3rd. We’ll have many of our games ready to explore and plenty of GM support so come prepared with all your best questions.

Now that I’ve got you all thinking about the end of the year. Would you like to know what Ed has planned for 2017? Well… I can give you a little hint.

When it comes to games, we feel the old saying “Variety is the spice of life” is absolutely true! We’ve created games in low-fantasy worlds, history rich Sci-Fi, 90’s era superheroes, survival genre and much more. For our next rpg, Ed will be taking what we’ve learned with Era: Survival and work inside the Survival Horror genre to bring you another frightening experience.

Era: Chosen will delve into Psychological Horror in a world where demons could be standing behind you at any time and you’d never know. Judging by what Ed’s done with Survival I think you can expect this game to be full of surprises, dark twists, and plenty of creepy atmosphere. I don’t have more details yet but I’ll be sure to let you know just as soon as things start to develop.

That’s about it for me today. I can tell you that Hitman will be coming at you in the near future and I’ve been told we have some exciting things to show off in next week’s posts so be sure to come back for more behind-the-scenes details!

A Brand New Comic Is Coming – The Oracle

Comics are a great way to get inside the world of an RPG and we love creating them! Ed and a few of our writers are expanding our Era: The Consortium comic collection. They are currently working on a story that details the history of Hai-Xang Hayden, one of the most influential leaders of Hayden Bank. I can’t tell you much about the story but looking at the images Ed’s given us I dare say that she was a bit of a handful. We’ll just have to wait to find out more.

For those of you waiting on Kickstarter rewards, you’ll be happy to hear that work is almost complete on the Fifth Race, Rapier, and A New Dawn. Ed is expecting to send them out when the money comes in from the Kickstarter which should be in about another week. The Time Travel 1 book is currently with the proofreaders so that one should be wrapping up soon as well. Not long to wait now!

Remember, if you’re looking for more content and behind the scenes access there’s no better place to join us than in our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/sov). You get the opportunity to be a part of something unique by joining these Time Travel campaigns and helping to shape the Consortium from its roots. A Patreon membership also comes with special privileges so it’s definitely worth checking out!

Here are a few images of our in-progress comic. It looks like Hai-Xang certainly kept her governess on her toes!

Working Hard for EraWriMo – The Oracle

In parts of the world November is National Novel Writing Month, but here at Shades of Vengeance Ed has declared that November is Era Writing Month. He has been steadily writing each day in between working, during his morning commute and every other spare moment he can find. He has added content to expansions, tightened stories through editing as well as gained a foothold on some of our upcoming projects. As of today, he is nearing the 20k mark and we wish him luck in continuing the momentum!

Part of the work that Ed is doing with EraWriMo revolves around the next two games to be released in the first half of 2017, Era: The Empowered and Era: Hitman. You’ve seen pieces of these games and a selection of art already. We currently have a primer available for The Empowered so head over to our store and get yourself all caught up before it comes out. There is still plenty of work to be done but keep checking back to see how things are shaping up.

Along with these new games, Ed and a few of the crew are working on something we’ve never attempted before, an audio drama! Leo, Ed and myself are collaborating to create an ongoing audio story within the Consortium universe. Our plans right now are to focus on one character in a recurring role as a pirate radio broadcaster. It’s just in the planning stages so far but we’re very excited about it.

That’s it for me today, see you back here on Saturday!

Kickstarter Rewards (A Universe of Expansions) – The Oracle

By now I’m sure you’re aware that the Kickstarter for Era: The Consortium ended in spectacular fashion, generating an extra five books for all those above the first level. I’d like to thank everyone again who backed us. It’s only because of the support of our fans that we’re able to continue making these great games. Surveys have been sent out already and we’re working hard to finish all that new content. We’re going to do everything we can to keep on schedule so definitely keep checking back here to get periodic updates on how we’re doing. There’s lots to be done!

Would you like to know just what exactly all those extra books get you? Let me break it down for you.

The Secret War – This book will let you play as one of two kinds of covert operatives, either a Shade or a Phantom. You can choose whether you support the Resistance or the establishment and use your new skills and tools to undermine your opponents.

The Fifth Race – This book introduces a whole new species! You’ll get some in-depth background and story content to get you started as you explore the world through brand new eyes. Along with this playable race, you’ll also get access to more equipment (50% extra from what we included in the original Core Rulebook!).

Rapier – This book explores the dangers and opportunities of hacking inside the virtual world of computer systems. Whether you’re trying to hotwire a DISARM or grab some juicy blackmail material from a Moritasgas CEO, you’ll need to pass through a gauntlet of virtual challenges.

A New Dawn – The book where you get to add Psionic Abilities to your characters! I know you’ve been waiting for this. We’ve got everything you’ve come to expect and more.

Time Travel Campaign Books 1 & 2 (and just unlocked via PayPal additions, Book 3!) – Do you ever wish you could have one giant do-over? That’s what these books are. The Time Travel Campaign allows you to go back to the very beginning of the Consortium and reshape it in your own image, rewrite history!

Revival – The book that brings horror to the Consortium. This rulebook will incorporate Survival Horror rules into the Consortium and will provide a taxing campaign aboard the mining vessel the Sadoko. The story is evocative of both Alien and Dead Space.

So, that’s the complete list of all the fantastic games the supporters of the Kickstarter can look forward to. The End Of A Kickstarter and Another Chance To Come See us! – The Oracle

I don’t want to start out sounding dramatic or anything but… if you missed us at MCM London you missed out on the biggest event we’ve ever done! We had more games and more participants than ever before. It was amazing, but you don’t have to just take my word for it. Ed and the gang took some great shots of our teams hard at work and you can find them HERE, HERE and HERE. These three videos capture some of the thoughts people had after they played through our games. I’ll spoil the ending for you and let you know that everyone loved the games, but there are some fantastic stories in there. We are really thrilled that we got to share our games with so many people! Thank you to everyone who made time to stop by.

Now don’t worry if you’re one of those folks who missed out. You still have another opportunity before the end of the year to come see us and play a few games. Dragonmeet is on Saturday December 3rd this year and we’ll be there with all our gear and just about any of our games you want to lay your hands on. We’re really looking forward to it and hope that you are too. Make plans to spend an hour with us and we’ll show you just how easy to play and how fun these games are.

My last announcement today is that we’ve ended another great Kickstarter. Era: The Consortium’s expansion blow-out ended on Tuesday with a whopping FOUR extra books for everyone eligible! That’s incredible and we really can’t thank you enough for supporting us and for supporting The Consortium. I’ll come back to this on Saturday with some more specifics but for now just know that we’re all over here thinking warm fuzzy thoughts about all you kind and amazing backers.

With this Kickstarter finished, Ed has us working night and day to finalise the expansion and dive into production mode. We’re working on the writing and images for Empowered, the last few images for Era: Hitman as well as final touches on Champion of Earth. This means that we will have plenty coming out in the next few months. 2016 is not going to pass by quietly, we plan to keep pumping out games straight into the new year!

That’s it for today, I’ll see you all again on Saturday!

Come See us at MCM Tomorrow! – The Oracle

At this very moment, Ed and Leo are just finalizing the setup of our booth at MCM Comicon in London. You can find us at Stand 1232. We’ll be there through the entire weekend so you’ll have plenty of time to stop in and check us out.

For the first time ever, you can check out a copy of Era: Silence and attempt to earn your true name by overcoming the Challenges on the Isle of Silence. Do you have the self control to play a game with limited communication? Stop by our booth to play this and any of our 5 available games either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Ed will be right there to answer all of your questions and even just have a chat about creating games if you’re interested.

There will not be a news post on Saturday due to our attendance at Comicon but be sure to check our Facebook and Twitter pages through the weekend to get loads of updates, photos, and videos! Remember to tag us in any photos you take with Ed or the GM crew, we love to chat with fans!

Have a great weekend and I’ll catch up with you next week where we can talk about the end of our Kickstarter event!

Six Era: The Consortium Books Unlocked! – The Oracle

With just under two weeks left to go, Era: The Consortium’s Expansion Kickstarter has just busted down the door of its next Stretch Goal. This means that everyone above the £1 level will get six books for no more than the cost of their initial support!

That’s a ton of content, but we’re not just focused on bringing you more books. Further into the Stretch Goals we offer things like character cards and equipment cards. These additional tools will generate new characters on the fly which is going to help your GM create a wide array of individuals for you to encounter. We still have time to reach this goal so please help us give it a push by sharing on your own social networks.

There’s a chance that you’re out there reading this and you’re wondering to yourself what all the fuss is about. Why are we giving out so much content for just one game? The answer is, we believe in the Consortium. Era: The Consortium has such a rich history and deep reservoir that we feel there’s so much yet to explore. We’ve gotten some great feedback from others who enjoy this game universe as well and you can check out a fabulous review from Entire Party Killed, Here.

If you’re still curious to know more before you jump into this game, then you should read Ed’s posts. He has been busy sharing details about each of our planned expansions on the Shades of Vengeance Facebook page where he breaks down all the backgrounds and gives us loads of great art so be sure to check them out.

One last mention before I leave you. I hope you’re all planning to visit with Ed and the team next weekend at MCM Comicon in London. Stop by and play some games!

That’s it for me today, I will see you next week.

A Survival Source Book is in the Works! – The Oracle

As 2016 begins the slow wind down to the next year, Ed is hard at work planning and developing some great new material. One of our projects will be a source book for Era: Survival. This book, titled The Swarm, will cover the Swarm faction in detail, giving you all you ever needed to know to get into these characters. The work has already begun and we’re hoping to have it ready for you by the first half of 2017. That will give you plenty of time to pick up the full rulebook and start getting yourself prepared. Right now you can get it as a digital, paperback or hardcover add on through the Era: The Consortium Expansion Kickstarter. The funding is 100% supported and we’re working our way through Stretch Goals which include loads of additional material so it’s worth your time to check it out!

In website news, Ed’s work on our new site is nearly complete! We’ve been living under a construction zone for a while now but you’ll be seeing some improvements very soon. Our new site doesn’t just look pretty, it also comes with some more advanced functionality. The store will now take credit cards as well as PayPal and we’ll be doing some tracking to gauge who is visiting our site. If you see a drop down menu asking you to input your year of birth, don’t worry, that’s the only piece of information it’ll gather.

That’s all I have for you today but before I leave, I’ll send you off with a Survival image: These are the individuals responsible for ensuring the Drones obey commands, Abecedaries!

Enjoy!
